Running out of time?

I know this is weird, but I keep getting this 'counting down' feeling where I feel my DVX100b will only last so many hours until it needs fixing or something. Paranoia? It has 250 hours on the heads roughly.
 
Yes, the heads have a limited lifespan. However, it's probably around 2,000 hours so -- you'll probably have moved on to another camera LONG before you've worn out your DVX!
 
Haha I wish, Im so poor I'll never afford a HVX 200 which is what id really like after the dvx
 
Plus, the hour meter keeps rolling while it's merely on with a tape in it. Kind of the opposite of a car engine's idling time.

Barry: why am I getting a red flashing "no tape" icon while using a Firestore and DV Control on the DVX is set to EXT? (I stuck a tape in to stop it and that's how I discovered that the hour meter keeps going whether or not one is recording.)
 
Can I get away with not cleaning the heads for the time being? I bought it used, and its at like 140 hours right now I think.

I need to shoot a short and don't have the $$$ to send it to get it serviced. It hasn't dropped frames or given me any problems so far...
 
no probs for me. i dialed back the hour meter and now it reads 0. I'll get good money for mine :)
