GETTING RID OF ALL THE CARS

The secret all lies in the power of masking. If you take a series of photos of, for example, a freeway, there’s more than likely going to be places where the cars aren’t in the exact same spot.

So if you layer 10 or so images over each other in Photoshop, you can edit out all the parts where the cars aren’t. It also helps to take the shot when traffic is really light. After that, you end up with a shot like this.

Since all the shots I took were high res still images AND the camera never moved, I could simply layer the freeway parts of the image on top of my video. Here’s an image of a mask.

I combined the mask and the video in Final Cut Pro, and, since I was dealing with high res imagery, I had enough resolution to zoom and pan the shot to my liking.

Ah crap, I think this is another film making related post, ya know, the kind I never make.....

So, Pookie, are you Ross Ching? Or are you just telling us how he did it?

Either way, I liked the vid. Great music choice too and nice seamless edit to shorten the song.

Looks cool. Another way with video is to film with the same method you are doing but instead of photo-shopping out the parts, you do frame blending. Basically you take 'n' stills of a scene and average them all together. It's the same idea of how google maps eliminate, or used to, people from their street views. (I guess now they dont care.)

I know that the program Fusion has this feature built in and I've used it to eliminate flicker from animation renders.

But even so, for a video, it would have to be 'n' frames fixed, moved a bit, pause, n more frames, ect, I think in this case, maybe.
So, not sure if that's what he did. Just giving another angle on it. Whatever works.

Both look great though. Your method obviously gives great results. But photo-shopping stills for video like that usually results in flickering due to...

...am I being too serious now? haha. It's Friday.

Forget it. Cool stuff though.

//Actually it was a plugin into Fusion, sorry. DeNoise I think. It was one of the revision plugins.
Pretty sure that was the one. Worked like a charm. Was a couple months ago. Jeez your making me work now.
