Hey guys,
Just finished up this short documentary about collegiate running for my film class. It was really fun to do, and surprisingly I edited it all in one night, a long night might I add. Obviously because of some of the conditions I wasn't able to get great lighting and the interview lights are desk lamps. Regardless, let me know what what you think. thanks for watching

awesome. looks very professional and looks like it could be something on TV :P

reminded me of intervention for some reason

Oh, and was the audio recorded from the built in mic?

All of the interview audio was recorded 1 channel onboard mixed and 1 channel Oktava MK012 mic, although, i basically turned off the onboard mic whenever i had the Oktava (except in the lockerroom to give nice ambience). everything else was onboard, but that is mostly just ambiance. thanks for the feedback

i looked that mic up, and it seems like its a studio recording mic, right? Did you have it on a boom or was it just mounted on the camera?

Blackdogs - yeah it is, its a nice hypercardiod mic. Its really nice for interviews and places where you have good control over sound. I liked what I heard from other people's projects so I use that over a shotgun mic. It was on a stand right out of frame on the left.

NoNoob - yeah i definitely always run the second channel, but it ended up giving A LOT of noise that detracted from the sound during the interview (it was a dorm room so there was a lot going on behind the lens).
This is all at Fordham University in the Bronx on campus.
"J" cuts? I don't know what those are.
and I haven't gotten my grade back quite yet.

NoNoob - ok cool, I tried to a little bit with heightening the intensity, but didn't focus too much on it. thanks for the description though. it was at the Lombardi Fieldhouse at Fordham.

Bluong - i shot everything in 24PA. I did however put the shutter at 1/60 for the racing scenes as to avoid some blur.

You chose an excellent subject. He really feels comfortable talking about his experience when training, competing, etc. Not everyone that you find is that willing to share without almost "planting" their sound bites for them. One suggestion, either coach your interview subjects on where to look, or plant your eyeballs where you want him to look. In the locker room scene before the 3k, he was looking right at the camera lens (non-traditional doc trait) and way above the lens, and back and forth. Other shots, it worked better. You did a great job with your shots though. Blackdogs mentions that the doc reminds him of intervention...I thought the same thing when I saw how much that kid eats, and see how thin he is, and then see him throw it all up after running.
