GH5 Run & gun ideas with a shogun

Does anyone have tried or has any ideas on recording 4k@60 run & gun style with a shogun in an 'airy' backpack / shoulder bag to deal with the heat?
There is no need to look or operate the Atomos as everything can be seen/controlled from the GH5 through HDMI.

It's like the old days are back but then smaller:

Any kind of coverage will probably build up some heat. I've tried to think of different ways of rigging the thing but it's always in the way somehow.

A 4K/60p Ninja Star is way overdue, but we'll probably never see one.

Seems like it would be easy to build a bag that is made of a mesh material. As long as the Atomos is secured inside it could even just have large parts where there is no fabric at all.

Out the Atomos or other monitor/ recorder in a Director’s cage, add a screen guard and a shoulder strap, and you are done. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I tried this with my sony F35. 7q in a Directors cage with a v mount inside of a lowepro sling pack that could be left unzipped for a quick view of the 7q. Then I used a brother air scout as a tiny head mount evf. Maybe if I could of found coiled sdi cables I would of used the setup more, but 2 sdi cables, the coiled power cable and the pack was more tangle than I could handle.

I am very interested in this too. I don't have a solution but let me brainstorm with you.

Zacuto / Hawk Woods gripper batteries or sticky batteries, dtap power (drop the sony batteries).

Smallrig cage for protection

ThinkTank Mesh bag - maybe something like ThinkTank RU hot? if it could be big enough. Attached to a lens belt or backpack.

Audio field mixer bag - are there options that could be opened up pretty well for airflow to deal with heat?

Use a sort of coiled cable wrap for extra SDI/HDMI cable protection, use ThinkTank Red Whips or Zip Ties or something of that nature to route properly with enough flex

Audio bags — yes, the Porta Cable audio bags have an unzip back side you could partially open up for air flow, along with opening up,the front/top to see the monitor.

The Porta Brace faudio field mixer/recorder bags made for Sound Devices Mixers and the Shure 3-channel field mixers. They come up used on EBay and other auction sites quite often.
Cheers

Cary, did you ever find a solution for this?
Yes, if you make sure your monitor is not using HDR mode the heat generation of the unit is not too bad.

I have a Lowepro backpack where I put the Atomos screen locked in from the top, half open, which a short HDMI cable to the GH5, the recording start and stop is synced over HDMI, so you don't have to touch the Atomos at all.
The camera can be put into the bag from the side.

The new 5'' Atomos will do much better.

I was trying to solve this problem myself last year with a Black Magic monitor/recorder for my FS5. I thought about using a long-ish SDI cable and just dropping the monitor into the chest pocket of a photography vest (I own one already from some PJ work). I was trying to come up with a way to protect the screen of the monitor/recorder from inadvertent screen activations/button pushes...even thought about a piece of cardboard taped across the front of the frame with tape. As with most monitor/recorders, it can be activated from the camera itself.

The Shogun gets hot and the fan is loud as anybody owning one already knows...perhaps experimenting with a way of keeping it cold enough (small picnic insulated bag with ice packs) and then in a conventional backpack could be an option...it can then be powered by a Vmount in a separate part of the back pack which would also power the GH5...or the Atomos Powerstation which is lighter, though I don't use it....both the camera and recorder are power hungry.
