Rumored camera from Panny

We just heard it, from "top men", that the DVX100C will take filmmaking back to it's video roots: PixelVision.

That's right! Using the highly secretive 24R Mode (regressive frames), Panasonic has recreated the feel, look, and taste of the much sought-after Fisher Price Pixelvision that used standard audio cassettes as it's medium. With such features like "Cine-Slamma", a 1X Like-Uh Lens, Nonmanual and Nonautomatic Focus, and including the much vaunted "Magic Stick Editors", it's easy to achieve that artistic look we know you really want.

For those that think "hi-def" is just a fad, for those that think "widescreen" is best achieved via a sledgehammer and a Sony Trinitron, for those people that think grain is more than just a healthy food... this is your camera.

Of course, these are just rumors. From "top men".

EVS can't vouch for accuracy.

you got it wrong man.. the 100c is kaleidoscope-vision.. I dont think Pixelvision is onboard till the 100F.

LMAO

If it weren't for that Fisher Price Pixel Vision camera my life would have probably turned out completely different. When I was 13, my friend's parents bought him one of those. We had so much fun making silly Kung Fu movies with it that I asked my parents for one and they ended up getting me a VHS camera instead. After making a bunch of videos with it throughout my teenage years I got interested in moving to So Cal and working in the film industry.

If it weren't for that Fisher Price camera I probably would have followed in my dad's footsteps and gone into law enforcement. I would never have met my wife and my 7 month old son wouldn't exist. I'm working at a job I love and I have a wonderful family. To think that a 'toy' camera made by Fisher Price would have such a huge impact on my life! lol

where can I get a pixel vision cam?

how about some footage?

any links?

that thing even camed with a coaxial hook up!!!! to go right into the video card or break out box.

cool

PXL2000's used to be pretty hot commodities on ebay. I don't know what the market for them is like right now, but a few years ago they went for hundreds of dollars.

They were popular for music videos in the early-mid nineties, but quickly became cliche.

I can't remember any videos that had pixelvision shots -- anyone else?

That really reminds me of that kickass cartoon, "Home Movies".

I have a pixelvision camera that has been modified to have a coaxial video output. It's been sitting around for a couple of years and I still haven't had time to play with it.

The movie "Nadja" (1994) by Director Michael Almereyda, used the PXL2000's for certain effects, like "vampire vision". Was an interesting movie.... This same director did a version of "Hamlet" in 2000 with Ethan Hawke playing Hamlet, which again used the PXL2000. I've never seen it, so I can't comment. The short film Souvenir was shot entirely on the PXL2000, while IMDB states that it was also used in the movie "Slacker" (1991) by Richard Linklater. This is one that I've been trying to find, but always seems to be rented out. Meanwhile, in other news... I found the video tape which held my very first movies, shot with, you guessed it, a PXL2000. I'll work on encoding them and tossing them online this week for all to behold, my crappy goodness! :)

An the saddest part is I'll probably be downloading your clip and watching it, such is the geeky nature of us DVXusers :)
