Rumor: Sony A7s will have 4K video

What worries me more is the absense of more video samples...

On twitter I saw that Den Lennie was doing more test comparing it with a GH4. Mentioned the A7s was superior in low light. No one doubted that but I want to see examples or comparisons of the other aspects of an image. No doubt the A7s will have more DR but how much more is the question on everyones mind. I also want to see how it down samples 1080p since that is the mode most people will be using.

I just placed a preorder $2544 AUD :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Early July delivery apparently. I'm testing up against the 5D MK3 raw for a feature shoot. Looks to me as though it has 1-2 stops more DR and a 2-3 stop ISO noise advantage and no vertical fixed pattern noise (a real pet hate for me).

Being a C100/Ninja shooter...I am definitely interested in this little cam. Do you think its a C100 replacer? If the DR is there, and the ultra low light is there...and it shoots 1080 60P...and has a 4K option, and is FF, I'm just wondering if the C100/ninja combo will have met its match...and possibly take the roll as a B cam to this little guy.

Would love your opinion.

Congratulations!
REALLY looking forward to your test! If your assumptions are correct...there is really no point for somebody to buy a 5D3 with raw video in mind. About the RS test video you posted...to my eyes RS is not worst than what I ve seen from the majority of the competitive cameras...but Im not an expert:)

In one of the video sample, there was flying shot and they look great. Now i don't expect miracles, it's not a CCD global shutter like the Bolex, but in most situation im sure i will do the job not as badly as some people were saying. Let's see...

How do you know this number ? Have you put your hand on one early beta camera?
I was close to buy a 5d mark iii (again..) but i have a good intuition for this little devil...

There's an ISO test here-

As for the dynamic range the MK3 does 12 stops raw, the A7s videos I've seen are cranking out more, I figure about 13-14 stops. Sony have said 15.3 stops but that's gotta be raw stills. Most compressed DSR video cranks out about 1.5 stops less DR than raw stills/video, maybe a little less with s-log.

I can't think of anything about the C100 that would make me want one over the A7s. There's limited lens options, a crappier codec, it only shoots S35, no slo-mo, and no 4k option, plus it costs and weighs twice as much.

FWIW, the camera is set to 120p in this RS "test", which doesn't read the whole sensor but only a crop. This should naturally exhibit less RS than the full sensor readout.

edit: doh, lyrov already mentioned that above.

Den shot the boat footage handheld with a long lens & there's no jello. It might not be as good as an FS100 or C100 in the jello dept but it's bound to better that a BMCC or a 5D MKII. From what I've seen I'm pretty sure it won't be any worse than the 5D MK3.

Didn't heard about this one... Are you confident about it?
Im intriguate...

Where are you going to put their "dummy John head" ? :)
Is there any XLR interface which could fit nicely into the A7s excepted the Sony's one which all included a microphone to what i could see...?

I haven't tested them myself, so it is a bit of a gamble on my part. But for what I need, they seem perfect so I'm willing to give them a chance. I need something very small to record ambient sounds like the sound of street markets etc. Perhaps use them as a clip-on interview mic on the rare occasion.

I'm definitely not getting the dummy head :)

* If anybody else is trying to get a rolling shutter test: the camera should be recording. My 5N reads a small subsample of the pixels in standby mode, the image changes dramatically when I hit record, and that includes RS.

* I really think of the a7s as a mini C100. Apart from all you said, add a much better EVF on the a7s, and of course an external 4K option. And probably better DR with slog2 (the F3 beats the C300 by two stops). The only advantage on the C100 are the internal ND filters (and probably the RS thing, confirmation pending).

I' m thinking a holy manta type converter will make the entire external ND thing a hole lot easier to deal with.

I'm 90% sure I'll be buying this, have been waiting on a camera that ticks most of my boxes for a long time. Mostly waiting on Nikon, but it does not seem they will ever innovate when video is concerned.

I will be traveling for the foreseable future, and this seems like a good fit: good quality 1080p full frame video (don't need or care about 4K right now), can use all my old manual lenses as well as some fairly decent sony glass, peaking, zebra, awesome dynamic range, great high iso, small and compact. With the EVF there is no need for an external viewfinder, can get three points of contact by holding up to the eye, so I can get by without a rig.

Good for stills as well. Since I use the images mostly for my blog, 12mp is enough for me. Much more important is dynamic range and low light. Wish the autofocus speed and max frames per second was a bit better. This is probably not a great camera for action sports photography.

Ofcourse hoping the RS doesn't completely suck D90 style.

Just wish it was available right now! :)
