Rumor: New JVC cam at NAB?

They mention this on this release:

"HZ-CA13U – specifically designed for the 1/3” bayonet mount of JVC ProHD camcorders which enables the use of 16mm film prime lenses with a PL (Positive Lock) mount to address the needs of the cinematography community. The GY-HD200 is also capable of inverting the image from a prime lens so that special editing functionality is not required for correct recording of the image."

I wonder if that's something similar to these 35mm adapters we have nowadays. I mean, it's for 16mm lenses only but it seems like the idea is the same, isn't it ?
Yes, it's like a Mini35 that aparently can attach to the HD-100's bayonet as well. This breaths new life into alot of 16mm len's on ebay.

For those of us that don't know specs inside and out, what exactly does the HD200 offer than the HD100 doesn't (since it's 2k more) and what does the HD250 offer that the HD200 doesn't?

Just a quick dumb question:

Is 720/60p going to have the "live" video look or a film-like look similar to 24p?

KZ
Yes, and then some. You could now have the dramatic slowmo not only in SD but in HD as well.

This part is intriguing:

Its 1/3-inch bayonet mount allows the use of various interchangeable lenses from Fujinon, Canon and other third party lenses and accessories.

Why does'nt everyone do this ? This lack of on other cams is my biggest gripe (DVX, HVX, Canon ....)
John, It's all in the design and target market. In the Pano line you really have to take a huge step up the food chain to get those type of features. Your right, I wish all camera's could accomodate interchangeable lens'.

60p is a temporal frame rate. If shot well, it should look like REALITY--i.e. what you're eyes and brain normally see in the real world. In other words...smooth, normal video, albeit in spectacular clarity. That doesn't mean you can't shoot something that looks "filmic" in 60p, but I think when you ask that you mean the normal cinema/moviemaking look of film. Some consider 24P to be the end-all-be-all of cinematic storytelling. I don't. I consider the reality look just as valid, but it depends on what you're trying to convey. 24P is a way to accept the motion to the eye as reasonably full frame rate, but it's also got an abstract quality because there is a little more motion blur and strobing which makes the brain fill in the gaps. At least that's my take on the subject.

You can get a slow motion effect when converting 60p to 24p that's very clean too. Look at the HVX "overcrank" stuff for a glimpse of the effect.

btw,

Kudos to JVC. Dammit, I wish this came out originally, instead of the HD100 only.

What a killer feature set. What is this "new codec" for 60p? I do worry that it will be a bit too compressed to HDV tape, but I love the idea of SDI 60p output. Is it true uncompressed output, just like the HD100's analog out?

They are saying the spec is 1280x720 60fps 422 10bit out of HD-SDI. So yes, just like the analog out on the HD-100 but instead in a single HD-SDI cable. What you'd gain is genlock and word clock. I'm not sure what the spec is on the audio. It must go through some compression to a wav format somewhere in the process. We'll see the specs later on...

What I like so much is that all this new stuff is made for the HD-100, HD-200 and HD-250. The lens options just skyrocketed for the ProHD camera's and now they offer great monitoring as well? Sheesh.. I'm in hog heaven!

is 4:2:2 only on HD-SDI out? & not recorded to MiniDV tape?

The chart needs more work. There are some things that are misleading. For instance, you can get 422 60fps out of the HD-100. They've listed that you can't. I wouldn't use the chart as gospel until all the facts are straightened out. We do know for certain what the HD-100 can do.
