Rumor: New canon video DSLR

So 2k for (Ready to use R1 is in the range of $30k) so $15k... Its not bad, but we've been hearing about this RAW Interchangeable Lens Video Camera since Scarlet was announced

Hmmm...wonder if Canon really does want to go up against RED...

They've done an amazing job at making great pro still cameras and great prosumer video cameras. They really don't have a ton of experience in the higher end pro video camera area.

But I'm all for a DSLR sensor in a XL body!

Honestly, even if it is line skipping, I would pay extra for proper formfactor, monitoring, and audio... the moire is less of a problem. Most people don't even see the issues....

...Unless you're talent is wearing a tweed jacket :)

Was doing a corporate shoot the other day and the exec showed up in a gray tweed jacket and the moire was popping up quite a bit. Fortunately it was going down to SD in the end so it won't show up too much.

But on the 7D the cool thing is, to try and combat the moiré, you can have a high resolution image viewed on a monitor while filming and reposition the camera if necessary.

Truth is... hardly anyone cares. What pisses me off about moire is the effect in peoples eyebrows....

I'm pretty sure they are also aiming at up to 120fps capability.
They also sent out mail about adopting a 50mbs MXF Mpeg2 format, which is good news.
Sensor size will be interesting however.
Either way we'll all know more in the fall.

Why are we discussing a CR1 rumor? I dislike seeing rumors here as it is, but reporting something from a non-credible source is just ridiculous.

I am absolutely sure Canon knows all about the artifacts produced using the line skipping method currently employed in their HDSLR cameras. Hell, they made the damn things and then shipped them as is! They are well aware of the issues. These are still image cameras after all, with throw-away video features.

I mean, what do you think happened over there in Japan? Do you think the engineers came up with a DSLR video camera first and then said, ok, now let's make it shoot stills too. Of course not, it was absolutely the other way around, so of course the video features are not going to be as refined as they could be.

If Canon does go the route of developing a true video camera with a full-size sensor, it won't have the same issues we are currently seeing because they will be video cameras designed for video acquisition first. Get it?!
