Rumor: Canon 4k super35 camera

So even if Canon introduces what you are asking for, and it cost 20 grand, is
it still 'historic' in your mind?

Well... no. If the price is somewhere around the fs100/af100 and it has an ef-mount + 50mbps it would be awesome. Not worth the "historic" announcement but still, very much appreciated. If it's 20 grand then it competes with the bigger boys and doesn't necessarily cause that much fuss with lower budget guys.

Also a 5d mark III with no aliasing and lessened shutter would also be extremely appreciated.

Like most production companies that use the 5dmkII we've been using it in commercial productions like music videos, high end corporate videos and commercials for national tv broadcasting ever since it was released, on the sole basis of the unique look you get from the camera. The full frame has everything to do with it and the low cost is just a bonus. We create images that have that "look" you just can't get with the smaller sensors. Not once have we heard our customers complain about moire, rolling shutter or anything of the sort, because we find ways to work around those "problems".

Not sure if this was mentioned yet but the word Global just popped something in my head. A global CMOS chip camera in something in the price point of the AF100 and FS100 would sound good.

I think one of the major issues at the moment is that people are hoping (and in way - a dream like way - myself included) for a camera that has everything they can dream of for the price of a FS100 or AF100. I mean put it together here: 4K Super35 Global Senor camera with a nice RAW 4:2:2/4:4:4 codec with either EF or PL mount in nice non-DSLR body with XLR inputs, HD-SDI outputs, maybe some 3D added into the mix, along with the ability to warm up pies on-set... (anything missing?) Sorta sounds like RED - I mean come on, that's not going to happen with Canon anytime soon and especially at that price point.

i never saw that episode.... anyone have a link to see a few clips?

That's disappointing, but it will blow your mind... I kind of pride myself in watching every House episode so far :cheesy:...

I think some of us is just being a little sarcastic like when I mentioned how cool it would be if it had a Global chip without being too much money. It does not mean, I'm really thinking it'll happen. I do know that lately, Canon have been pricing their cameras a little higher than expected so they would have to change course to release something with a lower price than expected but you never know. At least releasing a Global chip camera is one way to make it really revolutionary.

I understand that - but I've come across people outside of this forum that really hope they'll get something like that at the AF100's price point.

I think a blowdryer with one 2/3" 4K chip and 4:2:2 200mb codec (like a quad xf100) would be a fantastic camera for corporate work ( if you deliver for web 720p) you could have a wonderful master cam and you could crop out different angles. Great for concerts and wide mastershots.

I wouldn't be surprised if Canon has a version of that 2/3" chip camera that looks more traditional. That was just a mock up to show what Canon can do. That along with the JVC 4K camcorder the size of the HM150 will be competing with the Scarlet.

I only mentioned blow dryer as the link Danielvilliers posted said the camcorder looked like the FS100 but more rounded. So it seems the initial prototype design has a influence on the final product.

Would something more usable in a doc/eng form factor (shoulder mount, decent internal recording format, etc.) be that much more difficult to produce? The idea of hauling a frankenkamera around in the muck, setup, etc. isn't all that appealing.

Sure isn't. I'll admit I'm loving shooting with my af100 till any of the new 2 options start shipping. Anxious for November 3rd to come. Still have a lot of work to produce till then.

the fact that RED is throwing scarlet (2/3") against whatever canon is going to announce nov 3rd tells me thie may indeed be the blowdryer thing, which I don't need for absolutely anything
