Dose the EX-1 has on screen grids for rule of thirds positioning ?

I think it does. But it's easy enought to judge the thirds rule yourself. Just picture it in your head. it's easy.

Not only that, but it also marks the safe area.

Rather than using the grids I prefer setting the safe area to 80%. That pretty much tells me the crop area for 2.35:1 aspect ratio on top and bottom, and the side marks through the back of the talent's heads in a two-fer shot will give me roughly a division by thirds.
