Coming soon... a complete article series I wrote about the importance of light in cinema. It tries to cover all the ways light can be used within an image for reasons other than simple illumination. The applications are almost limitless and overlapping, so arranging them into sections or some kind of dissected categorization has been my biggest headache. I focus mainly on light in terms of contrast, and only mention color, as color is important, but opens another can of worms completely.
I am posting these articles on DVXuser for two purposes. One is I want to share this work with the community, but secondly I plan on eventually making my own visual examples and perhaps releasing a more formal published form of these articles.
None-the-less, feedback in regards to a disagreement, addition, or rearrangement of the information I present (or omit) is very welcome. You may not agree with somethings I have to say, as this is a very personal glimpse of how I think about lighting and what goes through my head. I hope you enjoy it. I'd expect the first couple of short article sections this week, with more trickling in.
Now UP:
WWNL: Introduction
WWNL: Mood
WWNL: Shape & Depth
WWNL: Direct Attention
WWNL: Establish Character
Please Note: I do not grant permission for anyone to take what I have written and use/post/copy it elsewhere. Steal the current example images, they're not mine, but as far as my writing goes, it stays at DVXuser or any other publication/blog/resource I have designated. Thanks!

PS: this isn't about how to light, but rather reminding what can be done with it.
