Anyone know where I can get some music for a prom setting highlight reel, I've checked a few sites that the music sucks...

where do you recommend I start.

There really needs to be a way to license real music for limited commercial use, weddings, events etc. These are situations where the client expects the real thing. A DJ can play it live for nothing more than buying the CD, Radio stations just have to write down what they play under whatever blanket license use. But Videographers have to use crap canned music or risk being sued for a producing a couple of dvd's.

I've looked through some of the stuff hes got posted and it all sounds pretty nice. Not sure if any of it will work for your project.

Do you want royalty free music, or just outright free music? There are many composers who would be glad to write music for you for a small fee, and you wouldn't have any future royalties to pay. I do that kind of thing all the time for people, and it gives them something which is custom tailored to their needs, without the worry about having to shell out thousands of dollars to some faceless record label.

If you are just looking for music that is completely free, there are sites for that, but your best bet may be to put up ads on craigslist looking for bands who will let you use their music. You never know who you will find.

Not to be a downer but this isn't the right section. I am not a negative guy and the only reason I say this is that I have noticed that DVXuser isn't really united and that everyone stays on there own forums. People ask lighting and audio questions on their specific camera forums... we have a lighting and audio and postproduction forum. Lets try to be more united as a community and look outside the dslr forums every now and then. :)

have a look at pond5.com, revostock.com, istockphoto.com
It's all royalty free, so you pay once and have broad use on media.
