RoweCine Dolly kits now for sale!

I just shot you and order for the wheel set, looking around it looks like wheels alone cost over 200$ ! so your product is a good deal ;) anyway I have pro mathews steel track, I hope your wheels fit that?

thanks for the order obin. :)

I have some brand new custom designed for cine dollies Rowe Cine brand wheels coming to use on all new dolly orders..so yours will have them. good news, by popular demand, they are black! ill get updated pics up when I have a set ready.

..they will ride anything from a 1/2" to a 1 1/2" track. id reccommend 1" to 1 1/4" though.

Neil,

Thanks! I got the wheels last week and just like you said, it took about 30 minutes to put together. It was easier than I thought it would be. The wheels and metal mounts are ROCK SOLID. The hardest part was getting 1 inch think board from the local (Home Depot or Lowes) because ours don't carry lumber that thick. You have to go to a lumber yard (not a big deal).

We used it on a shoot last weekend and it was great. The shots from the point of view of the track look so cool that I found myself wanting to use it more than needed (I was hooked).

Great product

Just a note, I used to use PVC for track but didn't like the way it flexed if it had to span a gap. I went to a metal yard and bought two lengths of aluminum pipe (about 1- 1/2") 24 ft long each. I had the yard cut each piece into 4 sections, 6 ft long each. For fun, I held up the aluminum 6' section along with one of my old 5' PVC sections and they weighed exactly the same. The aluminum does not flex at all and I can span it across lengths of 2X4's to get it off the ground. I put notches in the 2X4's so the track has a groove to sit in. this keeps everything rather nicely in place. I found that if you lay the track directly on the ground, the wheels seem to suck up every blade of grass, dirt , leaves, etc... I'd still rather have the Matthews pro metal track, but the cost is prohibitive. Anyone know of a used source for pro track??

Congratulations Iamloser on bring this to the indie market. On all accounts it looks like a very well constructed product.

Couple of questions though :

1. I posted a thread on DIY with regards to an Ebay dolly I had seen that I thought was great value. Now I am not so sure after reading some of the respondents. Anyway you mentioned in your reply postage was included in your price? Does this include good old Australia :)

2. I have a shoot coming up soon in a bathroom of all places. Its a large bathroom and I was planning on having a dolly in there. However the dolly needs to be pretty small. So what I was thinkin is getting your 1' wheels and putting them on a small 2'x1'6" board? Do you forsee any problems?

3. For most circumstances I will want a larger dolly about 4'. Will the 1' wheel lengths be fine for this, or should I really be looking at buying the 4' wheel lengths? I was just hoping to buy the 1' and use them between various board sizes.

2. Are you thinkin about offering a T-Bar as an option?

Without a T-Bar how do people normally move the dolly? Have an assistant push the camera guy on the dolly?

Sorry for the lots of questions.

Robert

..first I wanted to say thanks to carlone for the feedback. the Rowe Cine Cine Dolly wheel trucks ARE solid like you say. thats because of the extra steps we use in contsruction which are alot more work on our end, but result in a much better quality product. and is also why our 4 wheel per corner unit can ride up to apx 200 -250 lbs. each hole throgh the cine dolly trucks is not just a hole drilled to stick a bolt through. they are actually pre-drilled, and then thread tapped. so the bolts for mounting the wheels actually bolt tight right into the aluminum trucks. then they are secured further with the locknut on the backside. this means that there is no wheel wobble or wiggle. they are tightly in there to stay perfectly in position for a long time. its extra quality things like that that you cant see by looking at it. but youll notice are there when you can pick up a 32 wheel unit by one wheel and its as you said "rock solid".

Robert,

1. we eat the cost of shipping for our standard units to anywhere in the world from the list price. no extra shipping charges. it will just take loinger to get there. we cant ship 2 day shipping to AU. what we do is ship it as fast as we can for the same cost or a bit more to get it there asap.

2+3. the 2 x 1.6 board should work fine. that is the advantage of the 1' trucks, is that you can use them on different platform. however when you put them onto a larger 4' x 28 " standard size platform or whatever size youll use.. you may want to use a little thicker platform to support the wieght without bowing in the middle. possibly 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" thick if using ply.

4. yes definitely. weve been really busy working on another product, but we will likely make one for between 15.00 to 25.00 including shipping pretty soon.

..ive ridden without using a handle when i forgot it a couple times.. you can have them push lower on your leg as you ride and you leg absorbs any jolt from push so it works better than a handle, but its annoying and not pro at all. if it happens again i think ill have them push it with a lightstand one the back edge of the dolly..lol so by all means make or buy a push handle. :)

..you asked for it. ...you got it.

All orders now ship with our new brand of custom designed cine dolly wheels.
color .... is BLACK.

Thick and juicy... firm and smooth... hush hush quiet, and ready to roll.
Enjoy!

..it all depends on the type of track and surface the track is on and how fast your going.. with solid track it is more quiet even at higher speeds like running. and on carpet or grass its quieter than on a hard cement floor that reverberates anything. mostly youll just hear a soft wind like "whoosh" noise if you start to go faster than normal. at normal slower speeds i cant hear it at all on any surface unless im straining to hear it in a really quiet room.

well ..as far as white, no luck there.. unless i sell you the set off my old dolly. :)

I'll have them lying around because im trading for these ..if and when i have some time and energy. they look killer with a full set on the rails.

don't know if this was addressed........... the pic, beginning of thread, shows 4 rails with a set of wheels..... versus 2 rails with the set of wheels at both ends(like the pic of your actual dolly) I'm assuming your shipping 2 rails with a set of wheels at both ends.... thanks for clearing up.

they are available as four 1' lengths allowing you to put them on any size dolly including shorter than 4' long, and they are also available in two full length 4' rails. this is explained on the order page. at the bottom of the order page there are options to buy either option for each set of wheels. the images should be updated soon to show our new custom wheels.

wheels KICK ASS, everyone that was thinking about getting the set, DO IT. they are great, really, great directions for mounting them too!

my dolly is done and it's sick, I will post some pics when I get a chance.

I am waiting on insurnace money to buy some Mathews Cine Track, it's really nice. I had 36feet of it before some A-hole stole our whole production trailer, inclu. the track and my old 8 wheel dolly

hey, thanks for the feedback/sales pitch obin.

Id like your (and anyone else's opinion on something. do you think a push/pull handle setup that allows the dolly handle to fold underneath and clip to the underside of the dolly when not in use would be worth an optional extra 40.00-50.00? it would be made of galvanized/stainless steel, or aluminum and have black foam padding on the T shaped handle. length would likely be 36-38" from base to handle...so alot like pushing a lawmower. I suppose i shuld post a pic and then ask again.. but just off-hand. im wondering if anyone would be interested in this.

if not interested at that cost, for that quality.. what price point would be acceptable ..keeping in mind that of course quality and appearance goes down with cost.

it could be done for 25 and work well but look sort of iffy..

I like the idea to be honest with you! I have to see some pics though but the concept ig good. Hey I have a question for you but I'll shoot it in a PM.

Do you think a push/pull handle setup that allows the dolly handle to fold underneath and clip to the underside of the dolly when not in use would be worth an optional extra 40.00-50.00?

The above sounds good to me.

You already have a professional looking product. I think you're better off keeping it looking slick.

K, I'm working on a sample of the handle setup. Ipersoanlly agree that keeping things more PRO in apearance is a good idea. the additional cost doesnt give us anything more to put it together.. the dollars just go into better made and better looking materials. with our recent heel switch to our own Rowe Cine custom designed/manufactured brand, we also switched our bearings to silver .. they are still reinforced stainless steel, but the color matches better..
