Round 4 - DVXUser Photography Contest

Took a walk around trying to find something without much luck, just submitted it the best of what I had.

I've already figured out that if I wait around for the perfect shot, I'll never get it in in a week. So I go with what I get.

I figure it's better to be shot down, then never to have shot at all.

I tried to come up with something on Monday, but I didn't find anything I thought was worthy.

And wouldn't you know, today I got stuck in traffic... but I didn't have my camera to shoot the long line of cars.

12 minutes to deadline, 11 submissions and five of the usual suspects/participants are no shows...

Maybe everyone is waiting for the Ahhh, Ohhh, or Mmmm challenge :)

Well since everything is hosted at the same site:

http://www.stffilms.com/Photos

It doesn't make sense for me to hide the domain every single week, but I do hide the album until the time is right. The contest is officially open, voting is open, submissions closed. 11 submissions this week...

Wait, one at the deadline.

12 submissions this week.

Alright, album is no longer hidden, voting is open and ready and waiting.

-Jeremy

Well I commented on every single one of them but haven't voted yet (someone went through and voted right away but didn't comment on a single one).

Because at this point only one person has voted and they didn't leave comments I'm going to vote before I call it a night. Some really interesting trends developed, some styles and habits were broken, and some amazing photographs were submitted.

I know I did it this week on my comments and already I see the regulars doing it and I see nothing wrong with it because the overall point of these contests is to learn but there is a bluntness in people's comments (especially mine). I think that this is a good thing and I hope that everyone takes it to learn from and not as a personal attack. That being said, if ANYONE feels that something is inappropriate please PM me so I can take care of it, but I think there is a difference between honest bluntness and a rude personal attack. This is the sort of feedback that I think is best, for me at least :)

OK, just wanted to throw that out there.

After 4 weeks and a core of 5-7 people participating every week you can really see certain styles from certain people start to come out and you can identify who did which image...

Some amazing and diverse images this week but please wait until Friday before you say which is yours and the story behind it.

Well I had stated that my picture would be crap. That's why I was submitted it near submission end. It's the act that counts.

It's all for fun, getting better, and getting feedback in order to get better.

The skills you gain as a photographer enhance the skills you have as a filmmaker

I have seen my eye improve over the course of this contest, and I am sure that will carry right over into my filmmaking. It's really helpful stuff!

I was just going to make a comment on that, Bman...I didn't have time to make an entry this go-round, but NONE of these shots are 'not good.' I didn't score one under a 3. A couple of these shots are some of the best I've seen in all of the photo contests. Can't wait till next week!!!

This is always a fun exercise. I like seeing what other people come up with for each theme, and I agree that you can really start to identify everyone's styles.
