Round 10 - DVXUser Photography Challenge

My picture was the pregnant lady reflecting. I guess DVXUser is not really the audience for a half naked pregnant woman judging by the low scores :-). The "model" is my wife though she did use to model and act professionally before I knocked her up. Her and my unborn son together are definitely the most beautiful things in my life now. To me, this contest was to capture that moment of my firstborn and the love his mother has for him. Thanks to Jeremy for the very thoughtful comments. Congrats to everyone else, especially FixItInPost, you were the only one I gave a 10 to! It made sense it was yours, given that it did look like a good old Oregon scenery.

Where are the scores, i just see the top 5?
Under "Latest Winners" click on "DVXUser Beauty Contest" and you will see a detailed breakdown of scores.

Interesting stuff.

I hope in the future, they have contests where we just judge a photo as opposed to an original image and post processing as well. It's pretty clear that the post processing had a big impact on the overall impression score. Not that that's a bad thing, just it would be cool to mix it up a bit.

Actually your image was my top rated original image but the selective desaturation brought the final image down a little bit... still it was in my top 2 overall. I think it was a great image and my favorite in the round overall.

Each contest will have a different voting criteria, but for this weeks challenge it will be similar. It all depends on the theme. Beauty was more of an open topic, whereas this week is more of a creative thinking process of association. Next weeks... well that is an aspect of photography that some people might overlook... Literally these weekly contests will take the place of a photography class at college where you have assignments designed to promote specific skills and enhance not only your photography skills but also cross over into filmmaking and enhance your composition.

That sounds great.

This is water running out of a faucet.

Canon 20D
Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG with Ring Flash
ISO 100
1/320 at f/5.0

The 'question marks' you see are the reflections of the flash. Yes, there was a bit of post-processing: color and pushing the blacks down.

I think it's apparent that many people voted for many of these photos with the thought in their head "What's this have to do with beauty?" Is beauty in the eye of the beholder? Someone here mentioned how, even if they didn't agree with the beauty of the image, voted for how the photographer must have seen the beauty and rated it on how well that beauty in the eye of the photographer's was portrayed. I think this is the way to go, if one is not able to find beauty in everything. Personally, I voted based on the photograph itself, without the 'theme' of beauty in my mind as much. I did this realizing that everyone's idea of beauty is different, and that this is a photo contest, not a judgement of one's concept of beauty.

So who won the DVX-based prizes? There were a few shots that I suspected were from DVX/HVX... curious to know which were or weren't...

Just thought I would claim mine. Pleasantly surprised I ended up as high as I did. I was in South Lousiana for a family reunion not having anything to enter. As we were driving back to the house on some back roads I saw this farm in a curve, so I grabbed my camera, turned it on and as I passed by about 45 mph, snapped it out the window. Camera is a Fujifilm s3100 4mp. In photoshop used cloning, healing and blur to take out the wires and the edge of the road. Thanks for the votes and comments.

Congrats to filmismymedium! I was walking through Target today and saw that your photo from this round of the candy cane girl in green was used for the 4 pack of Jones Candy Cane soda! Awesome!
