Round 10 - DVXUser Photography Challenge

Here's a question, what if you enter a pic that was like the one I did for Night at the cineplex? That was a combination of 7 pics to create the whole. I plan on doing something like that for this one. I'll take multiple pics and use only the parts I want to rebuild a finished work.

I imagine the rule would be to simply include all the photos used for the final piece. But, as there has yet been no mention of using separate elements you have shot, I thought I would bring it up. For something like this, I plan on doing something special, and submitting maybe more than one, just to make it really fun.

Oh, and I just thought of another question:

What happens if I win?

EDIT: DUh, didn't see Jeremy's post on page 3. Bleh on me.

Act surprised when you open the tablet you mailed to yourself?

I too wish to see Movie Master's vision of beauty. Can the evil be turned on and turned off? Is evil beautiful to Movie Master? Such deep thoughts.

Speaking of, here is a photo of the Grand Prize, along with an elaboration.

You are competing for this:

tablet.jpg

Intuos II 12"x9" Graphics Tablet

2 Pens (in software such as Photoshop, each pen can be a dedicated tool, ie one Paintbrush the other Healing tool.)

2 Comfy grip replacements/thingys :)

1 Pen holder (2 if I can find the other one which is stored away)

1 4-Button Wheel Mouse (wireless)

1 5 pack replacement brush tips

1 Button replace

Drivers & Software (Don't know what the software is, I only use the drivers)

I pay to ship, you pay by using them and improving your skillsets.

Also, should any of you hit it big and have a multimillion dollar budget, I EXPECT a call for a highly paying gig.

All right, I've just been out shooting and definitely have some stuff to submit for this one. Man, it felt good to shoot again.

I've got a couple of ideas, but maybe I'll just rest on my laurels and let you photoshop ninjas duke it out. But maybe we can clarify the theme. We're basically talking about a photoshop shootout, right? Because that's what the Wacom tablet prize is implying. So everyone's going to be looking for a dramatic before/after difference and additionally, beauty should be worked in as a theme. So if there's a really great image that completely nails the beauty theme, but it only required some very minor manipulation--it would rank lower than a lesser image that was really transformed by some PS magic. Is that right?

but what if youre picture kicks ass naturally? ( i'm not talking big, im jsut saying)

does it have to be photoshopped within an inch of its life?

I thought it was the other way round... I thought we were submitting original images straight from the camera to show how well shot (or not) our image was... then submitted a photoshopped version to allow touch-ups if needed.

I guess it will be up to the voters to decide!

Topic: Beauty
Details: You are to take and submit a titled image of beauty. Your submission must be two fold... The first image should be either a RAW or JPEG image right out of camera with no adjustments done. The second image should be your submission after it has gone through post processing. In order to enter this contest you MUST submit two images. This is not two images on one canvas... two images, two files... just two

It doesn't say Photoshopped to all hell, just processed, and there is nothing that says to "X" degree. So even a little would be fine, though I should think the "point" of it was to flex your manipulation biceps. But if your dont want to, or cant, just submit what you have.

There is no picture that can not be improved somewhat in Photoshop. Maybe something tiny like the littlest of Levels, but there is always something that can be done. Of the untold thousands of pics I have put my P-claws into, every one of them was made juat a litttle beter by some digital enhancement.

I can cover my wondrous, Phillips Bodygroomer groomed self with jello and/or pudding and submit one just for you Chris, if you like. It may cause nausea, a harsh or metallic taste in the mouth, or lower digestinal disorders, but if it's in the name of Art . . .
This image is disturbing on so many levels.

Chris

p.s. Matt, that is really cool of you to put up a tablet for a prize.

I'm also a little unclear on why we're being asked to submit before/after images. Is that part of the criteria for judging? If so, how?

Well, since we're going to be doing the voting--it's up to us. I'll be top rating my favorite "after" image regardless of the amount of post-processing as sometimes the best post-raw work is basically leaving the image alone or making minor tweaks.

I'll be throwing in a small prize for the photog with the LOWEST score. A lightly used Wacom 4" X 5" ArtPadII Tablet. It connects via a serial cable, so I'd recommend getting one of those serial-usb adapters. Free shipping for the CONUS.

I just wanted to say thanks for putting this contest together. It inspired me to get out and shoot this week-end. I even got a shot I like enough to enter into the contest.

Chris

The voting ballot will have categories based on original image, final image, post production technique, and finally... Overall submission...

Very simple, but it is not just a post production challenge, but the post is part of the challenge.

I could easily see a RAW image out of camera winning.

WOW!
I've been away for a few days, and I must say that this contest is definatly EPIC. Way cool prizes everyone.

I am TOTALLY in.

And we get up to 3 entries each? *rubs hands*
