Rough Cut- fight scene

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

Great camera work, good actors. I did how ever think your SFX sounds were just a bit loud and that to me made them un-natural. If you have a good mic try doing some folley work of your own. But I still got into the short, very well done!

Great stuff little spider. Good choreography and editing I liked it a lot ;D

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

I agree with HunterG soften the sound effects and just match the color correction from scene to scene and I think he has a winner.  I'd like to see just a few more inserts of blows.  When they gets hit in the gut, etc..  Let's see some facial reactions to the blows.

But over all again great job.

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

You arn't a beginner Bluespider.
It was a good peace of fight scene. I could feel the pain with each and every punch. And the edit is really good. If you had a stadycam or just a DvrigPro the cameramovement could be perfect.

You are lucky to have such a good caracters.

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

..i liked the scene. there was alot of good use of drawing a striking line to give a good illusion that they were getting hit. the action was a bit odd though as i didnt really meld with the idea that 2 trained fighters would continuosly set themsleves up for the other person to suprise them with a quick attack though. ..also, they should stick to the 180 degree rule as well for the most part. anyway i liked it. put a flurry of rapid succession action and it and this would be pretty cool . id say its one of the best fight scenes ive seen on here as far as people actually looking like they are getting hit.

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

This is a small part of an action movie and if I'm not misunderstanding it's about 2 frends, or brothers. One of them wants to do something and the other wants to stop him. They not really want to hurt each other.

It's a rough cut and I'm sure you gonna color correct the final cut. The different shoots has a bitt different color. Just one special request. If you could higher the dialogue's sound level to the same as the punch effect level. There is distance in space beetween the real sound and the effect sound.

Are you going to sell this movie on DVD?

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

woo bluespider! i love fight scenes and this one looked real professionall, Im not sure if it was meant to be funny or not, but a few punches drew laughs (not cheesy laughs) but laughs like "wow that hurt oh man - hes getting it now"

I thought some of the close cuts were done really well and editing was nice

i just finished filming a fight scene myself and certainly appreciate the amount of work that went into filming this

one thing that might want to explore is a tempo of the fight scene - like jackie chan swears by this - all his films action have a beat to it - makes the action fun, but a bit less realistic, maybe you already knew this and wanted to make it more realistic

anyways nice :)

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

i like the idea that these two guys are just exhausted. it adds some realism to the fight scene and makes up for anything lacking in the choreography. not that there is a lot lacking, but the pacing is slower, less rhythmic. i agree about the sound effects being a little much. your actors really sell those hits.

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

Thanks for all your comments. Remeber that this is my "little brother's rough cut". Yes the audio punch levels are not mix nor is the diaolge. It needs lots of work. He just wanted to see what people will say. I told him to hurry up and finish it so I put up the whole movie. He likes all the advice and going to use some of it towards his flick. Oh, this is really more a horror movie then an action movie.
Ight playas! Keep Rockin!

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

I liked it alot. The sound effects were very good. Don't try to change too much.

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

I agree, its one of the best fight scenes I've seen put up around here! But is he asking "Where is the beer?"

;D

Thanks, he's actually saying "where is the bear". I guess its his Asian accent kicking in. :)

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

Gyeah...i really liked it as a martial artist, film maker and action movie fan. Well choreagraphed.

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

I loved the action and loved the editing. I did not like the sound effects, sounded to old school kung fu for me. but great blocking on those shots!

Re: Rough Cut- fight scene

I liked the visual editing. I agree with the idea of doing some foley work yourself for the sound effects, as the ones you have in now seem a bit along the lines of dubbed Chan brothers movies. Of course, if that's the effect you're going for, keep it up. If it's realism you're looking for, however, a good beat up naugahide couch and a large wooden paddle can do wonders. Check thrift stores.

Also, maybe it's just my settings but it sounded like the scene sound was in mono and the sound effects were in stereo. Double check that.
