rough cut  of 'a piece of the moon'

Re: rough cut  of 'a piece of the moon'

I'd love to watch but LloydC is right, 112Mb!!!! If my calculations are correct that equals to, "subtract the 3 from 4, carry the 1" ...about 39 hours of download time. Too rich for my blood. I'm out.

;D

That is one of the best things I have seen on this site. It's things like this that convinced me to buy a DVX this week. My first short was done on 35mm, I hope my next done with the DVX will come out as good as yours. What kind of camera settings did you use, and was there heaps of post?

Re: rough cut  of 'a piece of the moon'

Awesome! One of the best pieces I've seen here and it proves that story is number one. Humble credits too, I liked that.

Re: rough cut  of 'a piece of the moon'

really nice! I'm def gonna pass this on. How many hrs did it take to film?

Re: rough cut  of 'a piece of the moon'

Very well done.

I kept thinking I've seen that old guy before. He was in a friend of mine's short, Paper Roses.

Re: rough cut  of 'a piece of the moon'

I really liked that. It sordof had an Ocean's Eleven feel to it (thats a good thing).

Great work man! :D I was totally into it the whole time. I liked your direction and the performances. Hilarious stuff. That's a pretty good rough cut so far. I think once sound is cleaned up and foley work added, color correction, edit/trims, this piece will be stellar.

Re: rough cut  of 'a piece of the moon'

thanks for all the positive remarks.

responses to comments/questions:

1. lloydc -- i have tried smaller but this was the smallest i could make and still be happy with the quality.

2. pipe -- thanks. it was shot in 24pa (f6), detail thin, master ped -3 or so, cine gamma. i cut it in vegas, which i love, and this is the first thing i've edited, so there was a learning curve on the software but it wasn't too bad as i'm a software guy. in terms of post color correcting, there has been only a little bit done, but by no means has the whole thing been color timed.

3. greeches -- it was a 4 and 1/2 day shoot, 12 hours days.

4. isaac brody -- that's exactly my to-do list! thanks.

John,
Great job. And thank you for a complete story with a beginning, middle and ending. Suprisingly rare. Very funny, well acted and directed. This is one of the best pieces I've seen on this site. Could you tell me about your lighting?

John

Re: rough cut  of 'a piece of the moon'

Raptor3400:

thanks. the most important element of the lighting was my DP. he's been in the industry as an electrician and lighting grip for seven years, working on big shows like alias, etc. now he's studying to be a cinematographer at AFI. he would spend a good 20 minutes (or more) on each and every setup, often times making small adjustments that i could barely detect.

as far as kit, i own three Arri fresnels (2 300's and a 650), plus a Kino Diva (a light that my DP loves and borrows regularly). in addition to that we rented a 1200 HMI, plus a couple more flourescent lights.

Wow, very impressive, esp for a first short! Outstanding! The sound levels weren't great, though, maybe you can re-create your .mov after applying a 'normalize' type of filter to the dialogue tracks? The visuals are great, the script is good, and excellent casting. Thnaks for sharing.
