I don't like the font on your name...

Quality of background image is not very good.

I almost think it might be better if you just had the slate and your name on a black background or something.

Keep it simple.

Keep the clapper on the left like that, and when folks click one of the links, the info can just display in what would be the open area to the right.... text running down, or a player window, etc.

Trying to see this ...

Will the links on the left open things on the right without ever moving the left?

I agree that's it's busy. Black would look good. I'm not a fan of the font for the links, either. Maybe it's because the black is #000000, and it doesn't match the other blacks.

Yea, what's on the left will STAY. I'm just making a plain simple site, no flash, no slowing anything dow. So yea, I guess you're both right about making it black.

Robbie

The slate on a different background, or an all black background might be fine.

Either that or get a higher quality image as your backdrop.

Looks good though.

The font is just awful. Sorry, but I'd be disinclined to trust visual work to someone who chooses to represent themselves using that font. It doesn't do you justice.

And...yeah, digital cinema, and all, but somehow using a film ribbon as your dominant visual element seems kind of off if you don't shoot film, for real...

First, the font looks childish, and you want to present a more professional image. The background could work, but you will want to blur it. Just like a film, you want to focus of the subject, not the background. As far as the plan to open stuff on the right side, that works fine if you have a high screen resolution and wide monitor. What happens if somebody is using a smaller screen or lower resolution? While you don't often see it anymore, it still happens. Think about the newer mini notebooks.

Text screams "I'm five!"

Roll of film is used so often by anyone who calls themselves a "filmmaker"

The placement of the film draws my eye to the lower left - where nothing is. So it moves attention away from what you are trying to get across. And it looks too busy.

Sorry to slam it, but if I was hiring you and I saw the page, I would think twice unless the reel was unbelievable.

That background picture is used too much for everything. Infact its the first image that comes up with a gogole search for film reel

The way I see fonts, is fonts to print/webpages/etc. is like sound to film. It's often overlooked, but it's one of if not the most important thing.

The font really needs to be re-examined. I agree with everything said. But look at fonts, do tests, what 'feels' right. Don't just think you want a fancy font (which 9 out of ten times it makes it look less professional rather than more).

Remember, think simple. Not saying to use Ariel (eww), but downlod hundreds of fonts, serif, sans seriff, and go through them. Again, try and avoid fancy graphic fonts.

1. Lose the background. Use black instead. (or blur the background as a textural effect).
2. Find another header font. Something simple. http://dafont.com has some decent free ones.
3. Find another slate image, or clean up the existing one. It has aliased edges and a pinkish tone.
