Hey Guys.. i just purchased the af100 (af103 in Australia).. im waiting for Barry Greens AF100 book to get here in the mail, so i know how to turn it on lol.
Im as fresh as they come, have a very basic idea of how to operate a camera, but i got alot of time to learn.
I was reading the posts about good lenses, but just got lost.. anyone know of a good set of lenses within a 2K budget, that would cover a wide range or shooting, outdoors, indoors, interviews, music vids etc.
I will continue to read these posts, but just thought someone might know of a good deal going on somewhere. cheers guys.

I also have no sound, or a tripod so help and suggestions there would be sweeet too lol.. any help would be awesome

Cheers Guys!! :thumbup::thumbup::grin::grin:

I use the following that I purchased on ebay

Tokina 11-16mm around $500 (f 2.8)
Nikon 17-55mm around $1,000 (f 2.8)
Tokina 100-400mm around $350 (f4.5/5.6)

I have some 40 year old Nikon prime lens. Particularly like the 28mm (f-2.8) , 50mm (f-1.4) and 105 (f-2.8)

The Tokina 11-16mm is a very good idea, but after that I would just get a bunch of Nikkon Primes.

The Nikon 17-55mm suggested is a great lens, but you will have a very difficult time finding one for 1000 dollars. New they go for around 1500, and the average ebay price is between 1250-1450. You're going to blow your budget

Instead try and cover your bases and grab:

1) Nikon 24mm F2 http://cgi.ebay.ca/Nikon-Nikkor-24-...deo_Photo_Objectifs_Zooms&hash=item2eb60936b0 $270
2) Nikon 35mm F2 http://cgi.ebay.ca/Nikon-35mm-f-2-0...amera_Lenses&hash=item53e81b4124#ht_780wt_905 $150
3) Nikon 50mm F1.4 http://cgi.ebay.ca/Nikon-Nikkor-50-...38719039?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item35b323903f $100
4) Nikon 85mm F2 http://cgi.ebay.ca/NIKON-NIKKOR-AI-...mera_Lenses&hash=item27bc32efeb#ht_500wt_1156 $120
5) Nikon 105mm F2.5 http://cgi.ebay.ca/Nikon-105mm-f-2-...mera_Lenses&hash=item3f09dbb1a2#ht_3070wt_905 $200

All those together will bring you to around 850-900 bucks. After that, choose what you want.

Hi Leonytis,

I got my AF102 (also in Australia) only a few weeks ago. $2K will get you some very good lenses. I think that a lens that is good indoors will be good outdoors. The exception might be some of the Panasonic Lumix lenses, but only because they're slow. Lens speed is determined by the f-stop number. The lower the number (2.8, 1.8 etc) the "faster" the lens is. I have some Canon FD primes, which I am still playing with. An option might be to get some cheaper lenses while you're practicing, and look into getting a matte box, good tripod etc. A good tripod, rails and matte box help out immeasureably, plus it makes you look and feel more professional. The Nikon lenses get good writeups around here, although I haven't used them. The only "video" lens available for the AF102/3 is the Panasonic Lumix 14-140 lens (I have the 14-42mm Lumix lens and there's also the 14-45mm Lumix available). It's quite slow (f3.5) but will be good for outdoors and well lit shoots. However, I'd advise buying it from Adorama, B&H photo etc, as it costs about $1400 in Oz, but $800 overseas.

For sound I have the NTG-3 Rode mic with a windsock.

There's an Aussie thread around here somewhere if you want to enter your details. Post some footage in the screen grabs thread when you have some and best of luck!

Another Aussie here :)
I'm really happy with my Sigma 24-70 f2.8 nikon mount (purchased used for $550)...some quick tests between that and my Canon L series 24-70, the Sigma held up exceptionally....although the feel and mechanics of the Sigma aren't as good as the Canon, but for half the price it's not bad. I also have a nikon 50mm 1.2 and 105mm 1.8....plus when I need it I use my Tokina 11-16 canon mount with the Kipon adapter....waiting for the Birger before I use too much of my Canon glass though.
Biggest piece of advice I can give is to not skimp on the adapter. I grabbed a cheap nikon-m4/3 adapter from a local camera store just to get me going straight away, but one broken lens later (dodgy lens release catch caused lens to come off and hit the ground - ouch!). My repaired lens now sits snuggly in a Novaflex adapter :P
cheers

Check RPLens. They rehouse Nikon and Ziess. A set of Nikons are a little more than you mentioned but worth it.

How's the steadycam working? I've seen some of those on ebay, but wasn;t sure of the quality.

I haven't had the chance to use it yet.. this is the first time ive owned one so im not to sure how good it is compared to others.. it is a very solid piece of equiptment though, i wasn't expecting too much being the price it was compared to others, but i will let ya know how it goes before the end of the week.

I haven't used that India steadycam, but I was told that you should go through and pretty much replace ALL the nuts and machine screws with decent ones. Supposed to work great once that is done. At the very least, go through and tighten every screw/nut.

oh serious!! coool!! thank you so much..i haven't put it together yet, so i will definately do that.. just had a quick look at some of the screws and they do seem a bit cheap lol.. so i will replace them all for sure.. thank you so much!!!! your a champ
