FEATURE: ROM - A Feature Film by Benjamin Sliker and Matthew Bumby

Great stuff man, kind of reminded me of Inception a little bit though especially since Leonardo DiCaprio's character is seeing his dead wife in his dreams.

Acting and directing were very good. I liked the score too. Best of luck to you on your project.

I'd really like to see this as a feature - it has great potential.

Keep at it!

Thanks a lot guys!

I don't know if anyone else has experienced anything like this, but Matt and I's script meetings are always a horse of a different color. We have an uncanny ability to talk for exactly 90 minutes without being able to solve any issues or scriptwriting roadblacks that we've had so far, and then at 90 minutes, it's like the pearly gates open and all the answers just flow. Every time. 90 minutes. Or as Matt would describe it: "The first hour of our phone conversations are the worst hours of my life. There's only so much I can take of you sighing on the other end of the phone."

Today's Filmmaking Adventure:

Ceiling outlet and first two lighting rails installed on set. Thanks for the help Dad!

Quick Test of the Lighting Grid. Pretty limited in what we could do with just two rails, but I'm liking the results already. Lighting and no light stands? Can life get any better? I submit that it cannot.

Oh, and Manfrotto is going to love me the next couple months with all the cool light clamp accessories I'm going to buy.

just got off the weekly 'script' call (as opposed to our weekly 'technical' call) with Matt and after about a week and a half of staleness, I'm super jacked to start writing again. I think I might lock myself in my office Monday morning and not come out until Wed night.

But, Matt, being full of surprises, hit me with a cool anecdote from his past. In the beginning of our convos, we make sure to chat about absolutely nothing for about 10-20 minutes just to ground ourselves. And we were along the lines of agreeing that Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge is possibly the hottest woman ever portrayed, when he hits me with, 'oh yeah, I met Nicole Kidman'. And I'm going to poorly paraphrase, but the story went something like this: "they were filming in Wilmington and we went down the set. I was 6 or 7 and I went wandering around the trailers and walked into the first one i saw. Nicole was getting her hair/make-up done and noticed me. I asked her if there was anyone famous that i could see, to which she replied 'well, my husband is Tom Cruise', so I stuck something out for her to sign. I still probably have her autograph around here somewhere."

Pretty awesome - I'm going to follow this thread Ben! Great short. I can't believe I haven't seen it before.

Looking forward to following the progress of this feature,

Kegan

Congrats on the short. I loved it. And good luck on the rest of your journey! I can't wait to see how it progresses.

still on track to have our first draft done by the end of Feb., however, it's going to take a considerable effort to do so. Matt likes to call this our 'development draft', a pre-first draft if you will. Something where we can barf all the ideas we've had for the last year on to the page and develop the story, instead of worrying about what is going to make it into the final film.

That being said, here's some photos that are inspiring us for the set design of Daniel's office.

filmmaking adventures of the week - tested out pattern/lighting effects for the workshop walls, started drywall-ing over the bay window in the set room, bought materials for the subflooring, sent concept artist a inspiration package/proposal, and oh yeah, penciled a couple more scenes. :) Not enough hours in the day I tell ya.

the Kino Flo parabeam 200 came today! Had to hook it up to the grid. (don't mind the set construction in the back.. :))

this light is awesome. 1000w tungsten equivalent. I've had it on for hours now, haven't noticed a temperature difference in the set room. WORTH EVERY PENNY.

now the anxious wait for the Diva 400s to get in...

filmmaking adventures of the week:
• Finish painting the set room flat black - check
• Receive Diva 400s in the mail and test - check
• Finish assembling and painting lighting grid - check

Phew, next big adventure is to build the sub-floor!

Should have the first draft done soon as well, then the agonizing pleasure of ripping it to shreds for 4 months before we shoot.

well ... i guess since it's been 3 months.

working on wrapping up draft 5, and of course, set construction continues, still a mess, but major progress...

Before and After: These two pictures are of the same wall.

Amazing. Looks like you actually did some electrical work too (installing ceiling fluorescents). Impressive.

yep. custom built those from scratch. There's 4 of them (right now), and they are suspended about 6 inches from the ceiling. gives it a cool drop ceiling look.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. It's definitely a process!

done with the first couple base layers for the chair/wall interface. Just numerous hours left until it looks how I want it to ...

Wow. Nice. Enjoyed the short.

What will you with all those towers? When are you shooting?

Good luck.

Martay, thanks for the interest!
I've ripped apart half those towers for their pieces. Essentially it was a big materials buy. Don't want anything in the workshop to look like it was bought off the shelf, more custom made.
Our shooting date is an ever evolving process. Hopefully it will be 2 months after the script and set are done. Which will take a bit longer. October has a big question mark next to it.
