Rolling shutter on HVX200??

First time I have ever seen this. Shooting BTS of a photo shoot with orig. HVX200. 720pn 24 overcranked to 60fps. Strobes going off for the stills. I noticed what looks like partial exposure, characteristic of a cmos camera with rolling shutter. How is this possible with a global shutter?

Here is a 5 frame sequence from the peak of a flash until the strobe dims out completely. Check out frames 3 and 4.

what app are these out of? Have you tried rendering a frame (in a different format) and pulling it up in PS?

these are screen grabs from fcp. not fcp's doing. looks this way in rendered quicktimes as well as the raw footage. this is just one spot where this occurred. it's all over the place.

Do you still have the original P2 data, before it was transcoded by FCP? FCP can do some bizarre things to footage when it brings it in... Thats the only thing I can think of. Frankly, because of the design of the CCD in the HVX (or any other CCD camera for that matter), if there is a problem in camera, its not a rolling shutter on the imager...
See if you can recreate the issue, and if you cant, Contact Panasonic directly.

i have the p2 data and this shows up in p2cms as well. this is straight from the camera.

where's barry green? he is like the panasonic yoda. he must know something...

Is that a 200a? I seem to have the same problem from time to time. I notice it on my lcd monitor. Seems to happen when the camera is first booted and you start panning or if its been looking at one scene for awhile and you then more the camera suddenly. I'll see if I can post some frames.

no this is just a 200. this rolling shutter effect is all over my footage. weird. i just went thru frame by frame full screen in p2cms. playing straight from the p2 data. every flash from the strobes produces these partial exposures.

It almost looks like smear except smear manifest as a vertical line usually. And smear is usually just a white line coming out from the center of the light source.

This is weird.

i was thinking maybe it has to do with overcranking somehow? but the ccds run at 60hz native and the shots were overcranked to 60fps. i'm baffled

shutter was set at 1/48. i know the hvx changes the shutter automatically when overcranking. i assume it went to 1/60. shutter shouldn't have anything to do with it but i thought i would mention..

Were you using auto exposure? Maybe the camera tries to change the iris every time the flash goes off.
