Rokinon cine lenses or not- any users?

Hi all,
I am thinking of getting the Rokinon 35mm and 85mm for my AF102. I have an 4/3 to mft Panasonic adaptor so can select the olympus 4/3 versions. However, I would really like the de-clicked cinefied T versions, not available in 4/3 but that would mean another adaptor if I went for , say a nikon F mount. Does anyone have any experience on comparing the infinitely variable T series against the standard version?
cheers!
Rod edit: I am referring to the convenience of variable against fstop option not optical performance

I can only speak for a friend of mine who has some Rokinon cine lenses for his EA50. He loves them. I have no experience with them.

I have the Rokinon Cine 35mm but not any of the standard rokinons. Saying that, I would think the standard non-cine versions would be similar to other non-cine lenses. Aperture would click stops, not open or close smoothly. Honestly, I have not used the geared aperture on the cine lens as I have it mounted to a Novoflex Nikon to M43 adapter and that also allows for click-less changes in aperture. With the type of shooting I do, I also do not change the exposure of a shot while recording so I do not really need the change to be smooth, but it does allow the opportunity to go with half/third/quarter stops.

To me, the real benefit of the cine lens is the geared focus. It has a nice sized throw which allows for smooth and controlled changes in focus. Beyond that, I think the lenses use the same optics so really, your preference should come down to having a built in gear on the focus ring as a novoflex adapter would allow for smooth aperture changes on any nikon lens.

I have used both Rokinon regular and cine versions. They are basically the same lens with good build quality. 99% of the time I don't need to change aperture while shooting, but when I do, the cine version comes in handy. Both aperture and focus rings are very smooth.

Thanks guys, I hadn't thought about the focussing ring as I don't have a geared adaptor- but for the future I might of course! I do like the idea of stepless aperture adjustment though, so my decision will be whether to have both those benefits at the compromise of having to use another adaptor. Hmmmm- leaning towards the cine style now.
Cheers!

Our company just wrapped two 6 week features one shot on CP.2's the other with Rokinons. The DP is a very good friend of mine and he loved the look of the lenses but did say the markings were a bit off.

I have used the Rokinon 85mm T 1.5 cine lens, and it works great I'm not pleased with the adapter I bought, loose fit. I will buy the 35mm really nice lens. and I have a follow focus which worked good on the focus gear ring. Here's a
clip.

I used the 24, 35 and 85 on a short film recently via the Nikon F speedbooster adapter. Amazingly good for there overall cost. Via the speedbooster I had 35mm, 50mm and 60mm FOV available at T1.0, stopped down to T2.8 was actually T2 but using the sharper area of the glass. Absolutely no complaints from anyone involved with the film.

Hi, What make was the adaptor and any pics of your follow focus?
Cheers

Hi Rod, adapter is Dot-line micro 4/3's It doesn't fit tight on the af100 or the lens a bit loose but it works, it should snug up better to the body, my follow focus a cinecity unit and works good came with matt box kit.DSCF4012.jpg

Thanks Sputnik, as I am in New Zealand where prices can be high I use B&H for accessories usually and need to get it right. Funnily enough that is the very adaptor I was going to get-not now! Nice looking rig .Cheers!Rod

I been using the Rokinons for jobs not needing PL glass since they came out with the cinema models. And now it's my main glass I use for 80% of my work. I like the focus roll off and with the combo filter, the highlights get pretty creamy. Can't go wrong with this set, only wish they could come out with a 50mm. The 35mm and 85mm are my 2 favorite of the set so far.

Hi Joncarr, nice shots. What combo filter do you refer to?
Cheers!
Rod
1/2 classic black soft which is basically 1/2 classic soft and 1/8 black pro mist. It's my go to filter for any modern lens on my EPIC. It takes the edge off that modern lenses give in terms of sharpness for RED and ALEXAs and really helps the EPIC shine for highlight roll off.
