GH3 Rokinon 85mm 1.4 lens

I'm don't remember exactly but I would guess less than 10 feet. I'll try to frame up a similar shot and measure the distance. It may be tonight or tomorrow before I get to it but I'll let you know.

Wow, that seems pretty close considering it's an 85mm lens and the shot isn't that tight. Thanks Carlos, looking forward to your measurement.

Thanks Carlos for taking the trouble to determine your distance. Much appreciated. Now I have to decide if I should get the Rokinon 85 or splurge for the Olympus 75mm

From all the examples I've seen the Olympus 75mm is a better piece of glass but part of the equation is how you work. I really appreciate all of the benefits that the Rokinon Cine version offers. Decently long focus turn, stepless aperture, gears already on the lens. All of these add up to better working experience for me. Either way, I think you are making a good choice.

I'm "resurrecting" this old thread because I sold my Rokinon 85mm Cine T1.5 lens and just got the Olympus 75mm f1.8. Having tested both of them I felt I could now add some info on comparison here albeit somewhat subjective.

I liked the Rokinon. It's a very good buy considering what it will do and for those on a budget and well tuned into things like the long focus throw with a real "feel" to it, it's more than a great lens. In my time as a professional photographer several decades ago I got well used to the great "feel" of manual focus on most good lenses.

But now with mostly "native" m4/3 lenses I've adapted fairly well to the "focus by wire" and use the magnified focus assist a lot to "nail" focus and the Olympus 75mm f1.8 is to me a fantastic performing lens (very subjective here!). I've always been a "sharpness nut" (why I switched to GH2s in the first place) and this lens is quite sharp wide open (as is the Oly 45mm f1.8, the Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4, and the Lumix 20mm f1.7 - and the Lumix 14mm f2.5 is no slouch either).

I could go on but the conclusion that either lens is a good choice, the Olympus 75mm is what I should have gone for in the first place. It doesn't hurt that I found an open box special $150 down from B&H new price, and got a black lens to boot.

cine version available for MFT mount?

cine version available for MFT mount?

Does Rokinon offer the "cine" version in a micro four thirds mount? I don't see it listed as such on their web site, nor have I found it at any on-line dealer websites.

I have a good Canon FD to MFT adapter. Will Canon FD adapters work with Rokinon's Canon EF mount version of this lens and my GH3?

John - Thanks for the link, but B&H doesn't currently show the Rokinon 85mm "cine" lens with MFT mount. The regular lens with MFT mount is available, but I want to know if a "cine" version is available.

You are right. What I am going to do myself is buy the Nikon cine version lens kit and use the Nikon to MFT Speedbooster. That way I will have the Nikon mount for my stills Nikon cameras and the MFT with the speed booster for the GH3 and hopefully for the GH4K when it comes out. The lenses will also have double the focal length on the MFT cameras by using a regular Nikon to MFT adapter.

Not yet but they may in the not too distant future.

No.

For anything in EF mount you will need an EOS to MFT adapter, the EOS mount is different from the FD mount.

John & Bruce - Thanks for the replies and clarification. As I want to get a focal reducer in the future, I'll factor that into my mount decision.

A little off topic, but does anyone have experience using one of the focal reducers with the Rokinon lens AND a follow focus?

I'm wondering how secure the lens and focal reducer fit onto the GH3. Any sort of slop will mess up use with a follow focus, which is why I was hoping a "cine' version with MFT mount would be available.

I just found a used Rokinon 85mm with the Canon EF mount for $200. Not the cine version, but the price seems reasonable and I can add gear rings later.

Any suggestions on tight fitting EF to MFT adapters?
