I have a rodes mic with a mini 3.5 jack attached to a XLR converter plugged into the hmc 150 camera. My question is since the mic is powered by 2 AA batteries, what setting do I put the 48 volt setting on, off or on? Thanks.

I assume you mean Rode, as in a Rode VideoMic. 48v isn't designed to go through 1/8" jacks, and although it probably won't break anything, leave it off.

If it's a Rode Videomic it would have a 9v battery so it's probably another model..However with ALL powered mics definately leave Phantom Power off ..you might damage the camera which costs a lot more than a new mic!! I converted all my Rode Videomics to XLR..if you can solder or have a friend that can solder it's well worth putting a decent 2 core plus screen cable in the mic and then to an XLR plug..a lot safer than an adaptor .... I hated the tiny curly cable on my mics also ..it's a really simple process to do and you get a proper 3 way connector back to the 3 pin XLR! The 3.5mm is wired for stereo and XLR channels are mono.

You are right, it is a 9 volt. I do solder so if I can find someone doing it on YouTube Ill give it a shot. But I will leave the switch in the off position and not the 48v position. Thanks.

Modding the VideoMic is really simple actually....you just remove the battery and unscrew the complete mic cover and open up one half ...On the circuit board you will see the curly cable going to 3 solder points ...clip those off making sure you first make a note of which wire goes to which point (there will be a screen wire, a red wire and either a white or black wire) Replace this cable with a standard piece of screened 2 pair cable and take the cable out thru the casing and then close up the mic) Just use standard 3 wire connection on the other end of the cable and you have a XLR videomic that will be reliable!!!
