GH2 Rode Videomic Pro +20db option with GH2

I got the Videomic Pro and can't seem to get the +20db function to work without significantly too much volume getting into the GH2 even at the Volume Level 1 setting in the camera. The volume even for moderate voices is completely distorted, and well into the red in the GH2 display monitor. Is it impossible to use the +20 db on the GH2?

Do you mean +20db or -20db ??? My Rode VM always ran hot so I had it set to the -20db whenever I used it. Anything else just overpowered the camera, which it sounds like is happening at +20db in yours.

I have used +20 with good results with the camera on Level 1. It is loud but does not distort (subject 6 feet from camera speaking in normal voice indoors). Maybe you have a defective copy?

do you guys know if it is possible to use this with the GH1 too? The noise is hiss is too much on the GH1 and I cant see where to turn it down in camera so I can turn it up on the mic

Just got my VMP yesterday and have been experimenting a little. I haven't noticed a major difference in the signal to noise ratio between +20 dB and 0 dB (slightly disappointing). I also haven't noticed much distortion at all at +20 dB (which I was expecting to find based on other threads about this mic) but it does seem dangerously close to peaking a lot of the time. Maybe a -10 dB cable to drop the mic level to +10 dB would be worth trying out?

The VMP has a switch for a -10dB pad built on the mic, doesn't it?

Yes it has +20dB, 0dB and -10dB. The above poster is talking about having the VMP in +20dB mode then using a -10dB cable to into the recorder so as to make it +10dB overall...

Yes, this is what I meant. Sorry for the confusion. I ordered a -11 dB cable yesterday. I'll see how it works. Anyone try this already?
