Rode Video Mic vs. Zoom H1

So I bought the rode video mic ($150) for my T2i, but now that I think about it, wouldn't the Zoom H1 do everything that the rode would do plus a bit more all for being $50 less? The site nofilmschool.com put out an article discussing this and for the life of me I can't find it now.

The H1 is a recorder with different types of mics. It is not a shotgun mic, so in that sense, no, it will not do the same thing.

Unless you are using magic lantern firmware, your T2i will automatically adjust the gain, which makes it a very poor choice to record sound, so for that reason the H1 will be an improvement, although you then have to sync up the sound later.

I got both for run&gun stuff, I actually record from Videomic into H1. I only use the H1's inbuilt mics for ambient/stereo recordings, I don't see it being able to replace a shotgun mic like the Videomic.
