FS7: Rode NTG3 or NTG2

Rode NTG2 and NTG3.
I have both microphones, the NTG3 is the better on paper. The NTG2 seems a bit more sensitive.
Most of the time I have the videomic pro added on the camera too.

I want one of these microphone's placed on the FS7. The other one will get a nice warm place in a blimp.

Which one would you prefer on the camera?

(sorry for poor language, language pack disconnected)

The NTG-2 has very low sensitivity. As a result you have to dial up your pre-amp and end in awful noise. If you are on a budget the Sennheiser ME-66/K6 is a good choice. (NTG-2 owner)

I have an NTG3 and a Sennheiser 416.

I wouldn't put either of them on the FS7 - too long.

The NTG 1/2? (same capsule, different powering options) - I tested one and didn't like it.

I highly recommend an Audio Technica AT 875R for use on the FS7 - great audio quality and well balanced physically.

Ben.

At 875 - the perfect on camera mic and cheap. Its basically the old Sony on camera mono mic for generations of ENG cameras. The right combination of directionality, low handling and wind noise and decent sound.

I own both the NTG2 and NTG3, and the NTG3 is the "go to" mic and the NTG2 is just for backup. Both are a bit long, but I am able to mount them without them appearing in wide frame shots. Wrap the XLR cable through the FS5 mic holder for a snug fit. Of course, it should be said that a shot gun mic mounted on a camera will have limited use in certain environments and if it is far away from the subject. For interior work, I use an Audix SCX1-HC (hyper cardiod) on a boom pole (manually operated or on a C-stand).

Just for scratch sound I use the NTG2. I'm often with a separate sound guy with all the good stuff, but I agree the 2 and 3 are a bit long. Not a big deal, but personally it's fine the NTG2 on camera.

Have both - NTG3 definitely superior. What do you guys use to mount it in camera as its too thin for the std mount hole?

I use an NTG-1 on camera, when I first bought it the sales rep told me I needed an additional 15 dollar piece, I was confused, but spending loads more than that and 15 didn't seem bad. Then I realized what it was for and how valuable that 15 dollars was. Small piece of plastic that fits around the mic and it sits nice and snug in the camera's mic holder.

can't seem to find the one I bought in link form....
