Have you looked into the problem of low signal levels between the NTG-2 and H4n? The preamps in the H4n appear not to have enough gain to get a decent signal.

Argh, haven't checked it out...thanks for letting me know! What do you use for audio capture then?

I'm in the market for an NTG-2 myself at the moment but we have the Zoom H4 here, not the H4n. Hopefully the H4 is a little more gain in the preamps but I'll have to do some more research to be sure. Alternatively, I'll take a look around at different kinds of field recorders or consider buying a field preamp/mixer.

i have an ntg2 with shockmount i might be interested in selling. great condition, make me an offer! I think i spent nearly $300 on the combo about a year ago.. Just dont use it as much as my wired lavs... great mic though!

Hmm, upon further investigation it seems that the H4 may suffer from the same problem as the H4n. I'm pretty sure I tried the combination in 2009 without a problem but I don't really remember what the levels were.
