RODE NTG2 and BLIMP

Hi guys. I have just purchased a BLIMP from ebay in India. I am using Rode NTG2 mic. The BLIMP is fantasticly efficient at suppressing wind noise even without the deadcat (furry rabbit). I now find that I have to turn up the audio controls to full to obtain "normal recordings". Just wondered if there was any solution to get the audio controls back to midway point. Does it matter that the controls are set to max. The volume meter does not "overpeak" into red and there is no distortion,

Is it suppressing just the wind, or maybe some of the sound (or dynamic range) as well? I was considering one of these (gets really windy here in the fall), but was concerned about it's quality. I don't have a definitive answer but would say to try to use the BLIMP indoors with no wind, try recording some loud "peaking" audio with and without it. Then try playing back and comparing the footage on your computer or sound system and if there's no noticeable distortion or volume level issues, then the maxed out gain on the dials shouldn't matter, you'll just have less sensitivity on your mic to work with.
