Rode NTG-2 straight into GH2

I just ran around for fun to see what I could get handheld with the 14-42 & the NTG-2 plugged straight into the camera running off of a AA.

I know now I need some ND filters!

Great sound from th NTG-2.

Did you have any issues with the NTG getting in shot?

Also, what cable did you use - off the shelf, DIY?

I had the mic on a L bracket so it was out of the way - the cable is from B&H XLR-3.5mm then into 2.5mm adapter. I don't think I would trust this setup for a paying gig, but I didn't have any audio dropouts from all of this footage.

Thanks Karl.

I'm picking up a NTG-2 tomorrow and plan to use it off camera on a boom with a recorder, but great to know it can be pressed into action straight into the GH2 if needed.

MBPRODUCRS - how funny, I ordered one of those Polaroid variable ND's last night from Amazon!

is this actually possible ?
can you connect the ntg2 directly to the gh2 ?

no juiclink or bechteh adapters?

just an xlr to 3.5 to 2.5 adapter! You're not able to monitor anything though. Click on the link to hear sound quality.

Thanks for the reply Karl, I'll give it a try for sure!
I think you just saved me $350 :)
The becktek & juicelink adapters can't monitor audio too so I don't care. lol

I know this an old thread but I was actually thinking about using the NTG2 connected directly into the GH2 with an XLR to mini jack adapter cable. Doesn´t the GH2 have a sound monitor "graph"? I know it´s not a pro solution, but couldn´t it be used to monitor the audio from the NTG2?

I've used the gh2 with ntg2 on a few run n' gun shoots and it's been pretty good. Not being able to monitor kind of makes me nervous though. You can just monitor your levels but if you get wind or any other sound problems your screwed.

Is the audio level monitoring just a GH2 feature, or can I get that on my GH1 somehow? And what about defeating the AGC in the camera?
