Hello. My question for today is I want to get a not so expensive mic. I heard alot of good stuff about the rode ntg-3. I want to get the ntg-2. my question is is there a huge diffrence between the two? Also does the ntg-2 produce real broadcast quality sound. I want to use it for a tv pilot i want to pitch sometime next year. I am not cheap I just have to work within the budjet I have. I know sound is one of the most important thing in filming but sometimes you can find certain things and get away with it. I was wondering if the ntg-2 is that miricale. please let me know. Thanks in advance for all advice and answers provided.

Look at the tech specs for each. Things like frequency range and rolloff etc. FOr general purposes the NTG-2 in my opinion is a very food deal for the price. As with most equipment your outcome will be determined by the amount of time you put into getting good recordings on set. FOr example, doing shots multipe times to make sure you dont get any pops or clickls or unwanted noise. While recording you might be paying more attention to the levels and when you get back to the editing room you will find something you missed inthe field.

But to answer your original question, the NTG-2 is a respectable mic for the price.
