Rode Blimp vs Rycote S-Series 330

Well, for Christmas I will be buying a blimp for my NTG-2 (will be replaced with an NTG-3 down the road). I am torn between two options, Rode blimp or Rycote S-Series 330.

Things I like about Rycote:

* Almost zero handling noise
* Most popular and accepted name for blimps
* Modular design to accommodate multiple mics

Things I like about Rode:

* Includes Deadcat
* Many adjustment options
* Fits all Rode Mics and will fit my future Oktava MK012A
* Price

So what I want to know is some opinions from some of you who own either of these. I also want to know specifically from a Rode Blimp owner how much handling noise the shockmount in the blimp allows to pass through. Handling noise is my biggest worry with the Rode.

Thanks :)

For the money you'd spend buying the NTG-2 and either the Rode or Rycote blimp, you;d be spending about what you'd pay for an NTG-3. Buy an NTG-3 before December 31 and get the Rode blimp for $1.

The Rode is a very formidable contender, especially for the price.

You're going to be buying a NTG-3 down the road, but you're willing to spend $300 on a Rode Blimp now? I know we all have budgets, but you'll be effectively spending well over a $1,000 for the NTG-3, Blimp and boom pole.

Right now you get the Blimp, boompole ($150-200 value) and the smok'in NTG-3 for $699

Since the NTG-3 is in your future, beg, borrow and steal to get it now. Ebay that NTG-2 for $200, and you get the NTG-3, Blimp and boom pole for for $500.

I know..... I'm the devil. :-)

Hey don't get me wrong, I am not endorsing the place or the product other than to say I purchased from them and saved some $$$ when buying a Frezzi lighting kit. It was not a knockoff but an actual Frezzi product.

The Rode is a large blimp and is pretty effective on its own. The suspension is a copy of an old and discontinued Rycote design.

The Rycote S-series suspension is much better than the Rode suspension and the "dead cat" is integrated into the design. The fur length of the S-series is not as long as the normal Windjammer, but is very effective.

The S-series is not heavy and I have heard people comment on the high weight of the Blimp.

For longevity, I would say that the S-series is the better.
