rod support zacuto replica

Funny, the "19" number being used in a lightweight rods product name. They've taken design thievery to new heights.

Well, a better name would have a 15 in it. They're using 15mm "lightweight" rods, not 19mm rods.

'Looks like', yes . . . but looks aren't everything.

My experience with this particular company and their knock-offs: Pot metal, stripped threads, lack of proper alignment, poor tightening, heavy. Useable, but not very precise. Not very durable.

To be fair, I have not tried all of the products that they offer, so some may be better than others, but generally there is a reason that the price is lower. Originally, their prices were exceptionally lower which

gave sense to trying some stuff out. Lately, the prices are up and the cost difference is not worth it (for me).

Whoah, this replica looks good. I've been looking around for a baseplate to replace my Zacuto. I had a Zacuto Crossfire rig, but lost it, so I've been slowly trying to replace certain parts. I still have my Zacuto follow focus, 1 handle and half my rods. I've already filled the rest of the rig with Wondlan gear. I know it's unethical... but I need to recover from my lost! I'm willing to buy this just to give it a test run but is this website reputable?

Jayrock,
You email me the parts you are still missing and I'll see if I can replace it for free from our demo pool. I feel bad that you lost your gear I know how upsetting that can be. Steve@zacuto.com

best,
Steve

koolness. thats Great of Steve. Thats the kind of stuff you wont get from those other places. I sadly cant afford much of zacuto stuff but i do have my zfinder and waiting on my zacuto EVF :) ...cant wait! but quality service i get from them and CPMfilmtools is worth extra $ especially since i'm not in the US.

Zacuto may cost a little more, but their parts are precision made, tough as nails, and as evidenced in this thread, and by my own experience, their customer service is second to none!

Zacuto prices are not what I would call "a little more" .
Many CNC machines can make the products with minimum tolerance but it's not supposed to cost a fortune.

If you don't like their prices then don't buy it.

Or source the cnc machines, cad design systems, raw materials and anodizing and make your own.

The free market, how does it work?

I would avoid buying from Indian rigs/companies like dvcity or cinecity. Purchased a handle from them and the screws came lose after a few testing. Contacted them to return and refund. They don't allow. Ask me to pay for the shipping costs if i want a new handle shipped to me, which i reject. After 3 months of back and forth emails, say wanted to refund me but Paypal won't allow. They are very good in finding all sorts of excuses. The last email they even say they will refund me in my next purchase. Really ridiculous customer service!

I come from the video world and recently made the move into HDSLR to make videos. I bought a Canon 5d Mk II which was a BIG investment for me -- we're talking about 3500 Nz Dollars, which is a lot for a camera designed for a still photography. Eventually I knew I needed some kind of rig to stabilize the camera. I'm a Do It Yourself by nature and I had no doubt that I could come up with something similiar to a Zacuto rig -- but would it last? And wouldn't it fail on me on the set -- (like most of my homemade rigs eventually do? Is just a question of when....-- I knew the Zacuto stuff from seeing promo Videos, and Steve talking about their gear on Vimeo, etc... After years with crappy gear I decided that now I wanted to go with the good stuff even if that would ruin me. I ended up buying an used Zacuto Target Shooter on ebay and regretted after I payed it (mainly because for 30 dollars more I could have bought a NEW item, instead of a used one..) But when the rig arrived in my place I completely fell in love with it. In a moment of insanity I bought the Zacuto EVF the Z Finder Pro all brand new. Same thing -- once I had the stuff in my hand I loved it.

Yes the Zacuto Stuff is super expensive for someone who makes videos as a hobby. For that person I woudnt recommend buying Zacuto -- unless money is no problem and you want quality. But if you're planing on getting serious, and want gear that always works -- I'd say go with the best you can afford, and I would say tat is Zacuto, Red Rock, Cinevate... . From my experience with the Zacuto gear so far I can say one thing: There is no doubt that Zacuto Stuff WILL WORK. With the cheaper versions there is that doubt in the air ... will it work? Will it fail? Maybe I'm lucky and it will work just fine for many years, well that's perfect! But if you don't have time to spare and want to get down to business of pro filmmaking I'd say go with the best -- and for me is Zacuto.
