Robot Thread

This is a bit of an odd thread, but it came up on another board, someone was talking about Robots. I'm trying to think Robots in TV or Movies, for some reason.

Off the top of my head I can think of the following.

Johnny Five - Short Circuit -

Classic.

Box from Logan's Run

Vicki from Small Wonder -

Vicki was super creepy.

Anyways, can anyone else think of any others?

more robots

more robots

-Robby the Robot, Lost in Space TV and Movies

-The robots from George Lucas's THX-1138, precursor robots to:
-Star Wars R2-D2 and C3-PO

-The killer robot from HARDWARE, a kick ass late 80's low budget sci-fi

-The acid spitting robot pets of Gene Simmons' Villain from a very cool, low budget 80's flick, written & directed by Michael Chrichton: RUNAWAY

-The Terminator, T2 movie robot, T3 movie robots

-The robot from Spielberg's A.I. (artificial intelligence)

-robots from I, Robot (Will Smith/Asimov)

-Robin William's Robot Portrayal from Bicentennial Man

-KYLE XY

etc, etc

-any George Clooney acting performance, and finally

-NOT robots, but equally cool: The Replicants from Blade Runner, the greatest sci-fi movie (IMO) of all time

FILM:

--The Terminator and the various Hunter Killer robots from that series' post apocalyptic future.
-- Robocop and ED-209 (although I guess Robocop is technically a cyborg)
--Insect-like machine race from the Matrix Trilogy
--HAL9000 (technically an AI)
--Androids from Alien series (Ash from Alien, and Bishop from Aliens/Alien 3)
--Robot sentry guns from Aliens: Directors Cut (I always thought these were cool)

How about the spider robots from Runaway (1984):

One that might not be well known, MARK-13 from the film Hardware (gotta love the tagline on the poster):

Trailer (heavy compression, but there are a few good shots of the Mark-13):

TV / ANIME:

-- Cylon Centurions and Raiders from both the original and re-imagined Battlestar Galactica
-- Ghost in the Shell has some cool robots in it (both the films and series)
-- Patlabor films:

Good work.

I can't believe I forgot about R2 and C3PO, but somehow remembered Vicki from a Small Wonder.

Cartoon robots, Astroboy definetly makes the All Star team.

For Canadians, who remembers Astar the robot from Planet Danger "I can put my arm back on, but you can't, so play safe" ? (This was a classic Canadian commercial in the 80's and 90's).

I guess Vader could technically be included as he was part machine, same as the Predator.

The robot from Rocky 3 or 4 that wished Paulie a happy birthday. The only reason I remember is it was on an episode of Family Guy recently...

They aren't robots.

True. I guess they would be classified under cybernetic organisms.

what about that robot from Judge Dredd? (ABC Warrior)

ABC Warrior was pretty cool. Best thing in the Judge Dredd film.

A few more:

-- KITT from Knight Rider

-- DRD's from Farscape

-- The tunneling robot killers from Screamers (based on Philip K. Dick's short story Second Variety)

-- Those little robot probes that go into Ewan McGregor's eye in The Island

Not from films but games:

-- The Metal Gears from Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid series

-- The Geth from Mass Effect

-- Mega Man

-- Clank from Ratchet and Clank

Good ones!

Your Phillip K Dick reference reminds me now: Minority Report has spider like robots (ripped off from M Chrichton's "Runaway"). These are the ones that find the temporarily blind Tom Cruise hiding in the bath water. Cool scene.
