Roadside Attractions (Short Film)

Re: Roadside Attractions (Short Film)

CJ,

That short was WONDERFUL!

Very well done, and easily one of the most professional shorts I have seen with the DVX.

I was especially impressed with the sound mix, the lighting, and the composition. If I had one complaint it would be that "the mullets" were a little too over the top for my taste. But other than that it was really phenomenal.

Congratulations on all the well deserved awards.

Chris

Re: Roadside Attractions (Short Film)

Hey, I think I'm a latecomer to this thread but I'll co mment anyways. Thought the overall film was really excellent, the production values were very high as well

A few creative comments (since there isnt much to pick on the technical :) )

Thought the knife coming down shot could be framed at a more slanted angle - instead of a profile angle like you have, probably make it come down towards the camera more so its more like a scary POV shot. The cut right after it with the dolly in the car to the backseat was really good though, it helped create suspense of what happened.

I watched it twice actually, second time around, thought that the stuff the guy was doing like snorting sugar and stuff was a little too much (but as I've seen in this thread this has already been discussed)...but the parallel between the violence and the guy's total unawareness of whats happening was very good.

NIce choice of music at the end. You almost feel happy for that guy despite of the horror of what he is doing. Although sometimes it was hard to take seriously because of the little jokes: the guy doing bruce lee in the bathroom and the gun with the suction cup

overall really great!

btw, am I the only one to notice major artifacting in black areas? was this a big problem during film festival screenings?

Re: Roadside Attractions (Short Film)

Hey Young-

Thanks for taking a look at the film! The artifacting is a web-compression problem. It looks great on the big screen, with proper projection.

The best so far that I've seen on this site, and others as well. Your coverage/camera work looked very professional.

Re: Roadside Attractions (Short Film)

Congratulations on your awards. I enjoyed the film very much and loved the behind the scenes photos. One question for you, the small pipe dollie tracks, how did you keep them parallel to each other?
Thanks
Aram

This makes 9 awards thus far for the film.

Our music video California (www.arkhamfilms.com/never.html) won best Music Video & our other music video, Grim (www.arkhamfilms.com/inlikesin.html) won 1st runner up at the 2004 MEIC.

All shot on the DVX. Again, this camera is amazing.

Re: Roadside Attractions (Short Film)

Another latecomer.. ;D

Very nice work. Had already seen the California song before and liked it very much. Specially the car scenes :) ery cinematic.

Got to your site and loved the Human short. Nice flow. Amazed to know it was filmed on the XL1. The lighting is so good that it gave a very cinelike look. Supposed you also had some post filmlike correction, right? I hope so hehehe

It is increadible how the actress from Human became such an alien on roadside! hahaha

Photograph on both films and video are state of art. Agree with Disjecta in his comentaries. But overall is fantastic! Congrats on the festivals. Keep feedings us wih good stuff. We starve to death!!

Re: Roadside Attractions (Short Film)

WOW ;D ;D
The acting was a little over the top by the young guys but the composition and the story line, colors, lighting, shot sequences, editing, score....??i miss anythin?? it was all great.
