Just tell them you just got this computer used and you want to register it and makes sure it's good. Then let them know you can't do anything with it because you need a fresh install of OX 10.4.8 and you don't have the disc.
Just cut the first teaser for Leap: Rise of the Beast that uses clips from the movie. Working on the effects shots for it right now (there's six of them in the one minute piece), should be on the web in the next day or two =) Since this is just a fun teaser to keep me excited, I used Carmina Burana as the soundtrack. For the official trailer my composer and I will create something original. The trailer also uses the on camera audio since I haven't recorded the ADR yet (which everyone knows I do for the entire movie). What I'm excited about is that the trailer shows a little bit of everything we've done-effects, chases, fights, conversations and even a crane shot! You'll also see some of the rollerblade dolly shots we have, as well as a lot of the shoulderpod stuff. And finally, this all with the kit lens, and it still looks good. So check back here in a few days and see what you guys think.
Well shoot. Here's the teaser, but the H.264 codec faded the video a lot. Any ideas how to fix this? And yes, the audio is the camera audio, I know it sounds like crap. lol
On the plus side, I had a preproduction meeting with the client I did the tshirt video for today. I'll be producing four or five more adverts and training videos for her. She also happens to be a die hard Mac user and loaned me an install DVD, "hoping to convert" me to the Mac. We'll see about that. All I know is that I now have a laptop that works and does what I need it too. That's enough apple for me right now. lol. I really really love my current post pro setup and have no plans on switching that over anytime soon.
(video deleted)
EDIT:
I did just play with the render settings and finally got it looking right. I'm pulling this one down in the mean time until I get the right one uploaded.
I usually save as a Quicktime movie and then as an M4v (ipod) file. I upload M4V to Vimeo with no problem and .mov files to youtube or turn them to M4V files but rename them mp4. That works sometimes, but mov files usually does it. I'm working on my trailer too, LOL.
Well, still not happy with the compression, but it looks better than the last version I uploaded. What's considered a high bitrate Matt? I set this one to 6, seeing that it's what I usually use for DVDs. Audio will be fixed next month. Enjoy!

Check this out. I was making some notes about what the Bible really says about the antichrist.
I think, the Bible might be talking about the Vatican.
The Vatican signed the new religion into effect today. They're accepting of everyone.
They're even allowing gays and women to preach to the congregations.
No wonder they passed this. The whole world will follow them.
So according to you guys, Vatican City is this beast, and someone's in the mountains
broadcasting cryptic messages? You know you're crazy right?
Here's what I don't get. The message we heard referred to the Sabbath day.
So I guess the real question is, what does the Sabbath have to do with the antichrist?
Looking forward to seeing this. You've got guts my friend and I'm looking forward to seeing how your script makes the case for the message in the trailer - I find the subject fascinating and it looks well shot and well acted so far. Re: audio, I know there's not much you can do until you hit ADR - but in some spots even though the sound is poor quality, you can still make out the dialogue - in other spots you can't really make it out at all so I wonder if even using some different audio in these places (so you can at least hear what they are saying, even if the fidelity is low) wouldn't be a bad idea - that or decreasing the level of the background music track - I really want to hear what the characters are saying in the middle of this trailer and I just can't quite make it out. Heck even if you just want to put up a transcript that'd be cool - I'm really looking forward to your film.

Only problem I have is it looks like a runner. That's my term for films where the hero runs from everything. And there wasn't a ton of Pakour. I did like the roof jump, but can you cut before that last guy jumps that hurdle when the three guys are running. The other guys shoot across, and that last guy kind of breaks the flow you have going. And where's that Jason Bourne action? I was waiting for that. There should be at least a few shots in there. It's a nice teaser, I would cut it tighter. Some things stay on the screen too long, like the kick to the door, we only need to see the action of the kicking and the rush in then cut immediately to the next shot like you did with the guy on the roof watching the other guy as he runs beneath. Great shot. I like what you're going for, but I would watch a Bourne ID trailer and literally put mine together shot by shot based on theirs. Find out what's in their trailer that you liked and find the scenes from your film that's similar. A great example is this Wall-E trailer someone cut to the Watchmen trailer.
I hope your ADR sounds better than the movie I just watched tonight. It was a fairly large budget endeavor, but all the audio was ADR and it looked and sounded bad. Some parts were out of sync, and some of the dialog didn't match the expressions, and some was too loud or too soft for what was happening..
@Nate:
Can't release all the good stuff at once! Plus, I still have about 30 minutes worth of movie to shoot between the big fight and bad guy stuff. When I get ready to do a 2 min. trailer I'll be following the Bourne ones more closely.
@Matt
Thanks for that! Going to try that out shortly
@Azmyth:
Yes, Especially since I don't take the time to get the sound right on set, I'll be putting A LOT of work into the ADR and making it sound natural and in sync. I hate rubber lips! lol It is a lot of work, but it'll be worth it. What movie was that out of curiosity?
In other news, I've decided to call the teaser the "Director Motivator", since that's what I originally cut it for-something to keep me jazzed the next few months. Hence the cliche music, lack of completed effects, and no ADR. Version 2 will be much more clean and polished =)
Cut a teaser the other night to Carmina Burana. Yeah, it's cliche, I know, but the teaser's main purpose is to keep me motivated over the next few months as I do the effects and sound work. So far the response to it has been mostly positive. A few other members of DVXuser.com also helped me out. In particular, Nathyn has some good ideas for pacing and cutting that I'll be implementing when I do the next version while Matt was kind enough to help me with the render settings for the web.
I spent the day today dialing in the actual look of the film. I want it to have a feel similar to the first movie, just more expensive. The look I came up with is desaturated like the first film, but with the contrast and teal/orange scheme that's so popular right now in movies. And being HD it looks ten million times better than the last film anyway. To test this look on a variety of scenes, I applied it to my teaser and it's rendering right now. I'll burn it to DVD and see how I like it. I also learned from Philip Bloom how to crop to 2.40 and not get the black bars when viewing on vimeo, so that's cool.
In the Leap 3 department, I finished the story outline the other night. It's big. Like 2.5 hours big. The problem is that this is the last film in the series. The movie ends with Christ's second coming, and the creation of the New Heaven and New Earth. The movie starts where Leap 2 leaves off and follows the leap crew through the vial judgements and the final battle. It's like Lord of the Rings meets Resident Evil Extinction meets Green Zone. I have faith that God will make the film happen and give us what we need to pull it off, just as He has on Rise of the Beast.
Tomorrow we start filming the big fight =) This is the one that takes place about halfway into the movie that takes place at the market. We'll be brining in boxes to set up and have the guys crash into, so should be fun!
Just a note that... Carl Orf hasn't been so long dead that the beasts of Copyright no longer worry about his works...
Don't know if the trailer has the color grading you were mentioning, but at least one shot is pretty 'dark', I think it is a shot from an automobile... couldn't tell... A small note that on a edit... at about :43 or so, the fellow swings his nightstick, a guy crashes to the wall. But from the high shot, the nightstick doesn't seem to make contact, or 'sufficient' contact to have such an impact on the subsequent shot cut in. (there may also be an issue with where the 180 rule is broken... and allows the side of the face of the guy just hit, to show 'no sign' of impact with the nightstick...)
I know you'll be working on such things, and this was perhaps a 'quickie'... but, well I did watch it, and those things just sort of popped out at me.
