RIP Leslie Nielsen

I might be showing my age here, but for years I remembered Nielson as a serious, dramatic actor. In all kinds of TV shows mostly. This made it all the more impactful when Airplane came out and he pulled off straight-faced comedy with amazing aplomb. He went from being someone you looked at as a sense of authority, to someone whose face you looked at and couldn't help but laugh. To turn and pivot his career like that at middle age was an amazing achievement.
 
I was lucky enough to work on set with him on an episode of Due South. Nice man, a big star that could care less that he was a big star. We were lucky to have him.

Had the opportunity to work with him a few years ago on a television project I was doing the vfx work on. The world was a better place while he was here.

If I recalled correctly, the First Naked Gun was the first comedy I saw in theaters and it had me crackin up, the final Baseball sequence till this day is one of the funiest scenes in movie history. RIP.
 
Jim Abrahams once told me that Nielsen "got" the ZAZ Team's unique brand of humor right off the bat...whereas they were well into production before Peter Graves learned to speak their comedic language.
 
"i can hold my breath for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time!"

maybe he's not dead, but playing a straightfaced joke on us.
