RIP George Hickenlooper

The guy is hardly a household name, but he was an extremely dedicated filmmaker who wanted nothing more (IMO) than to create lasting pieces of work. Hearts of Darkness was great, and I am hoping to see Casino Jack to see what he would do in a narrative format.

Interestingly, I just saw him in a doc about the Toronto Film Fest where he was premiering "Jack". He seemed a bit resigned about the marketplace aspect of a filmmaker's journey, but he soldiered on for the sake of what mattered to him.

RIP.

There appears to be a trend to say "died of natural causes". I raised an eyebrow when I read that James MacArthur died "of natural causes" at 72, but here, at 47 it's just ridiculous. When my grandpa died at 92, I know he died of a heart attack, and that's what's on the death certificate. I can imagine dying in your late 80's or 90's of "natural causes", but at 47? What's "natural" about it? I mean, if the average life span for a male in the U.S. is 75.6, then seems to me, anything less than that, and you have not died of "natural causes" (and heck, even that's selling it a bit short, since in Iceland, a male lives for an average of 80.2).

Whatever - I'm not prying - he died and that's that, we don't need to know cause of death. But then they should put "cause of death was not disclosed", or "cause of death unknown" or "unable to medically determine", but certainly not "natural causes", because that's just wrong. Of course, in another reading it's all natural, as long as you don't die in an accident or murder - cancer is also "natural".

Either way, 47, natural or not, is way too young to go into that dark night.

Nothing beats Rick James dying of "natural causes"...Take that much cocaine, and naturally, you're going to die.

Well, the guy was overweight and seemed very stressed. He could have been diabetic, or had some sort of chronic illness. I usually take "natural causes" as meaning no foul play is suspected.
