Ring Lights!

you can build one for $50 , ultralight and very powerful.
look for angel eyes. you can purchase some with different diameter , embedded them and put a AAA battery holder (12V).
you just need to glue them together, add a filter frame to screw on lens.
take care to choose rings with square 5050 leds, small rectangular led are less powerfull.

look at this provider http://www.xwled.com/index.php?ctr=product&tid=168&up_id=141

believe me, if you embed the 150, 130,110, 90 together (total 4 rings) , you will get more light you will ever need.

So the OP says:

Any suggestions outside of DIY projects would be greatly appreciated.
(emphasis added)

And you then suggest a DIY project. Not only that, but you suggest a DIY project without providing any links, photos, or instructions.

I'm sure you were just trying to be helpful, but sometimes I get really annoyed when I read a response that is the exact opposite of what someone who has asked for help is asking.

The Manfrotto Aura light is coming to market in late May / early June and promises to bring the price of constant / flash hybrid lighting way down from where it's been with other LED ring light manufacturers. Barbizon should have pricing in the next week or so.

That looks really interesting. A quick search and it seems like MSRP is about $129. With just 48 LEDs, even if they are super bright, my worry is there won't be enough light. From the description on the Manfrotto site I'm thinking it may be fine for stills (with 4X output over continuous) but not so much for video. And an external power source option would be nice too.

I've been using the Konova ring light on both my 102 and Sony 350, runs off 12 volt.
Added CTO gel to it as its basicly a daylight balance. Light colour isn't exact but it does give the eye light look I was after.
The dimmer only cuts to 50% so some of the time I've added some pre-cut diffusion to bring it down to a usable inside.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I think I'm sold on the 352 kit, previously I had only found sketchy ebay sellers for that model but the link provided by keylight reassures me a bit.
Like Rowy said, I'm going for the eye light look. If anyone has stills with their setups I'd love to see them!

I have a monster ringlight. over 1,100 LEDs.. Daylight balanced. And it's $1,500.00!

What's the disadvantage? Well, it's inside ring is 109mm which is great for most still lenses, but means it will not fit a master prime. For me I love it.. If you like I'll post photos soon.
