FS7: Rigging the VF

I haven't seen any budget options for this specific part, but I've bought and used things from SmallRig before and they're pretty decent quality. I had a quick browse on their site and I think you could construct something pretty similar from a nato rail and a pair of 15mm rod clamps with nato attachments at each end.

I love their site, kinda like Meccano for the (somewhat) grown ups...

Best of luck. Do post some pics if you get something working!

Cheers,

EDIT: In fact, I'm pretty sure that all you'd need would be one of these (to clamp onto the mic-holder rod, camera-end); one of these (or a shorter alternative as you prefer, to extend the VF); plus one of these (to clamp your rod stump for the VF mount). You will also have to either cut a short section off your existing Sony rod, or buy a rod stump like this too. ;-) Just call me your local SmallRig sales rep (I LOVE to work pro bono - guess that's why I'm in this industry! :-).

Superb! Glad to have been able to help - might get one of these setups as an alternative monitor rigging solution myself - sometimes a wonky monitor can be almost as annoying as a wonky EVF!

Do post some pics when you get it working!

P.S. During my browsing I realised that it's not just similar to the Vocas solution, but in fact IDENTICAL - they're using a vanilla nato rail too ... not a bad profit margin for two hundred Euros I imagine!!! ;-)

The DIY viewfinder bracket is certainly workable, but it's not "IDENTICAL" to Vocas'.

Vocas' viewfinder bracket is made of only two parts, & there's a Safety Pin at the end of the rail, whereas the DIY version is made up of four pieces, & lacks a Safety Pin. I'm a bit surprised SmallRig hasn't copied Vocas' design, & wouldn't hesitate to buy one if they did.

Went to Vocas' USA distributor to pickup a bracket for the Gratical EYE, & found there's 20% sale going on right now. The bracket was still pricey, but it is well engineered, & toolless, plus works with my existing NATO rail.

I prefer Vocas' viewfinder brackets to Zacuto's, & Wooden Camera's, simple because they break down into smaller bits that better squeeze into my FS7's transport case (ThinkTank's Airport International).
