F35: Rigging experiments.

Not sure leaps and bounds better. The sony is very good. Sony viewfinder also have lut support no problem. Also frame guides. So advantage of zacuto is false color and waveform. For weight zacuto need extra arm holder and different top handle. Your top handle look heavier than original sony. Original sony weigh nothing. So in end with extra arm and heavier top handle weight is probably same.

Nope, it's leaps and bounds. Put it down to Moore's Law and the onward march of technology.

I've shot with both on the F35 now, and the Sony I just can't trust for critical focus, the Zacuto I can. That's all there is to it really. The rest of the Gratical's monitoring features (and ease of use of those features compared to every other EVF on the market - Sony, Arri, Red), is just gravy on top. Paired with the Axis Mini arm for mounting the EVF to the handle, you also get a FAR superior range of adjustment to get the EVF to a comfortable placement.

I measured both combinations, and the Zacuto with the Axis Mini and the Wooden camera top handle, saves you about 300g compared to the Sony EVF and top handle. It's not a tonne of weight, but it makes a difference.

But the lut in gratical is only 1d or? You think this is enough? 1d lut show wrong color or? Sony viewfinder is 3d lut.

The LUTs are only 1D, which is unfortunate. However the Gratical lets you heavily customise the colour and gamma of the OLED display - so I've separately calibrated both of mine to match the LUTted images on my Odyssey 7Qs from both the F35 and F3 almost perfectly - it certainly makes working with the cameras easier.

So this make gratical a bit useless for s-log recording or? Not everybody have 7Q to match custom and anyway this is match by eye. Not exact match. Such expensive viewfinders and no 3d lut. Strange. Alphatron have 3d lut?

I think if you're shooting in s-log you dont need to have luts slapped on it, though I suppose it could depend on your application and turn around time. I've been using one of those atomos ninja blades, and even though it has lut support I just leave the bloody thing in s-log and reference it all in its milky glory. lets me know what Im holding, what I'm loosing. My pipeline right now though assumes color grading so maybe that just lets me get away with shooting it like film a bit more.

I think you mistook me somehow there, this makes it brilliant for slog recording - because you can tweak the image to match whatever reference monitor you choose.
