Rigging a camera overhead for cooking

I'm trying to rig a DSLR to look straight down over a counter top interior in a kitchen. I've thought about rigging a single speed rail over the counter and using a bogen magic arm to get the angle I want, but I'm a little worried about shake in the arm. Anyone have any other ideas?

If you're going the speed rail route, I would go with two rails, and have something like the rig-wheels dolly on the rails. Mount a tripod head or ball head on the underside and angle it as needed. Use a clamp on each end to make sure the wheels don't drift.

Other than that, a long jib with the ability to angle the head straight down would work too.

If the kitchen is made for cooking demos, some of them have the mirrors already in place hanging from the ceiling so you would just shoot the reflection.

I've found the best use of my Delrin/Igus slider is bolting it to ceilings. Or rigging a chunk of 2x4 or 2x6 to speedrail and so on.

Gives you side to side movement and also spin. Mine's 48" long. Not as capable as a crane, but doesn't need the big crane footprint either.

Other than that, I don't think it's the greatest slider around...
