Rig with AWESOME DIY Z-Finder

Here are some pics I took of a friend with his 5D rig. Cavision rails, some redrock parts, indifocus follow focus and gears...nice rig but nothing truly special...except for his DIY Z-Finder which is AWESOME. It's made from cardboard, tape, a magnifier that was originally part of his DIY 35mm adaptor, and a rubber lens hood for an eye cup. Having used the Z-Finder extensively on some shoots I can say that this is 80% as good for nearly $0 (the optics cost him $50 but you don't need to buy a lens that nice for this...he just happened to get nice optics because it was originally for a 35mm adaptor.) It is comfortable and magnifies as much as the Z-Finder (if not a bit more.) It mounts on the rails with a small mount that I believe originally held on his DIY mattebox. Anyway, it's a nice rig (though I mentioned to him that the follow focus on the left instead of the right would probably be better, and would give him room on the rails for a tripod mount), and I am surprised I haven't seen more info on DIY magnifying loupes out there...his is awesome and seems really easy to make!

Is anyone else using some kind of DIY magnifying loupe? Because I thought this was an awesome idea...save you $400 :)

I made one from a linhof 645 viewing loupe - its optically better than a Zfinder

but this loupe probably costs more new

Why hasn't any one here build & sold these to this forum...I would buy one...I feel the Z-finder are great but way over priced products...

Ben, I wonder if he has to mount the FF on the right because of the FF design. I have the Indifocus 20 and find that it only really works on the right when used with the Indifocus DSLR rig. On the left, you can't get it back far enough to reach the focus ring on most lenses. I'm probably doing something wrong (haven't messed with it much...don't like the front heavy rig).

As far as DIY finders go, Teddybear has one that can be found in the DIY section of DVXuser.

Yes, I know that Teddybear has his DIY thread but I was wondering if anyone would be selling these?

That's the question.

I had talked to him and I think he had said he had tried it flipped and it worked fine he just preferred it. I think this is the new indifocus pro which I am pretty sure is reversable in a couple ways.
