Rig Power Question

Hi, pardon the relatively noob question but after hours of fruitlessly searching google I decided to just ask the experts here. :-)

i want to add a power supply to my rig. The main purpose is to power the Ninja 2, DP4 and HDMI splitter that I'm currently using but eventually I'll add an LED light and audio preamp. I'm shooting with a D800 which would be a bonus if its possible to power it too.

I would love any suggestions on any specific plates, batteries, or other accessories that I should look at.

Thanks in advance.

I dunno, there must be a USA equivilent

Id look at some BTS images from commercial shoots, or phone up some pro shooters in your area - find out what 'the standard' is around you

Maybe Vlock, maybe Gold Mount

If you buy into a standard you can swap around with other folks, and be assured that it became a standard for a reason and that future accesories will match that standard too

I got a v lock kit. Very happy with it so far. I like the battery weight on the back rather than each item having a battery up front.

Gets a little front heavy that way...

You'd be surprised. There are some quite affordable units on amazon. And no tax! Plus 2 day shipping with amazon prime account.
I hear you can do the 1 month trial and when its over, cancel, and just sign up again!

I have a similar problem and i picked up this here

i then picked up this little part here to adapt into the AC power adapter for my d600
power the whole thing with a pair of these
im still waiting for parts to put the whole thing together but it will power my monitor, camera, hdmi splitter, possibly wireless mic receivers, possibly a hyperdeck shuttle

I have seen adapters that are identical to this but use V-mount batteries and i avoided them because the price of one of those bricks is pretty high compared to the NP-F970 bricks that i already use in my LED lights. So i picked up a few more of the np-f bricks and im in good shape.

The only hitch is that you have to have both batteries in place for the power supply to work. If you don't close the 2nd battery plate it will not turn on. With some testing i was able to prove that if you were to connect the two pins on one plate to close the circuit you could use it to power the 5v and the 7v but the 12 would not get enough power (it tested at around 8v). Thats because the individual np-f bricks are only 7v and the breakout isn't wired to run a step up.

Hi There Mykin,

I'd definitely recommend taking a look at www.fastforwardtime.co.uk. They stock tons of DSLR rigs and power accessories and I'm sure you could find what you need. You should take a look at their v-lock batteries and mounts.
