rig connection to tripod

this is a great forum for learning about dslrs. i want to thank everybody who's chimed in on my behalf. in that spirit, i have some more q's... if someone wanted to connect an indisystem ultracompact rig to a tripod head, but had some clearance issues with tightening the plate top to the bottom of the indi mount would something like the product below help? the tightening screw (blue arrow) bounces along the bottom of the camera when attached.

also, i feel so simple asking this -- i can just get an add'l 1/4 screw so i can attach 2 screws to the bottom of the rig (red arrows)?
