Rick Young of Macvideo test drives the F3 with Canon glass using the Adaptimax.

As I repeatedly said… my issue was never zooming 'on-shot', it was changing focal length between shots and then finding handfuls of focus adjustment before being able to button on again. (as long as you're not too close!)

I'm trying to keep quiet - honestly!

(I hate zooming on-shot, it's not something I ever want to do)

Wait for the Birger Mount!!!! It is awesome kit that will blow your mind - you can pull focus like a PL lens using Canon, and by radio-control. Awesome company too, with truly stellar support.

You would not even be able to focus an 85 1.2 because it is electronic focus - so you need electronic control for it to work. Works like a dream on a Birger (I have tested)

I respectfully disagree about vari-ND's. They are a very valid option and I've used them for YEARS on my DSLR with great success. There are some really crappy foreign versions around, but my Singh-Ray unit is one of my most valued go-to tools.
I'd also suspect is has much better optical qualities that then built-in ND on the camera. While I have not officially tested this theory, I'd believe that Sony didn't spend the $$ on the best possible optical material for this. There per-unit cost was probably almost nothing. Maybe I'm just a skeptic.
