F3: RGB444 Option Greyed out. Running V1.40. Help?

I just purchased a Sony F3 second hand. It is running the current V1.40 firmware and i am able to access S-Log in the picture profile but i am planning on using external recorders such as the blackmagic hyperdeck shuttle and Gemini 444 and when i go to enable RGB 444 or 422 with S-Log these options are greyed out. Am i missing a step? Is there an update i need to install? is this update paid or free?

If it makes you feel any better, the F3's sensor can't actually provide full 4:4:4 colour information, so you're only missing out on half the goodness of 4:4:4 recording.

I'd recommend shooting with the SLOG picture profile instead of proper SLOG mode, because then you still have full control of your white balance settings.
 
The only plus for me having the upgrade is that you can send out the 1080/60p from only one 3G SDI. Without it you send out 1080/60p from the 2 SDI using 1.5G each. It seems simpler with one cable.

They pop up on eBay sometimes. Or on the marketplace here. Also, it can be uninstalled from a camera, so if you find someone selling an F3 with this option, you can ask them to split it. Ditto possibly for a broker.
 
One more possibility - call a few dealers. Sometimes they still have stock of discontinued items, and they may let it go for a reduced price as well.

Hyperdeck Shuttle can't do 444, only 422

Only "cheap" option to do 444 is the PIX-E5

Though personally I reckon ProRes HQ (422) is just fine, so I'll be going with BMD Video Assist or Atomos Samurai Blade (it got a huge price drop!) for my F3.
