Obligatory Preemptive Apology:
I've been having bad luck w/ netiquette as of late, I'm not sure what the deal is, so I hope I don't get blasted in here, It's SORT of a review, but who knows, maybe it really belongs somewhere else, most of us own DVX cameras and computers/laptops soo...
Backstory:
I bought my DVX in August, and based on a couple "I think it's good" reviews of safeware.com I purchased a policy for my G4 powerbook notebook, two desktop PCs, and my dvx-100A. The grand total was $10k, my premium was $200, my deductible was $200.
Story:
One day I put my laptop in my oh-so-cute cata bag, but was in a rush and didn't put it in the laptop section, NOR did I zip it up. I picked up my laptop bag and spun around (as I am often wont to do) and my precious laptop went FLYING across the room and did the oh-so-predictable shattering thing as it hit the ground.
I called Safeware, and told them, and they sent DHL out my way with a box two days later.
Resolution:
Two weeks later I got a phone call from the representative who told me that my laptop was 'beyond repair' and they were going to send me a check to replace my laptop. Their 'pricing' method basically goes something like "find a machine being sold which is comprable to the one that broke" but because mine was old, and powerbooks sell so high, they sent me a check which was worth 75% -more- than I originally paid for the powerbook in the firstplace, as I bought it used.
Needless to say, I'm absofuckinglutely thrilled and love safeware and have signed up my Mom and Brother with computer policies and am singing their praises from coast to coast because who ever heard of an insurance company doing anything other than screwing you?
So. If you haven't insured your stuff, or are worried that your homeowners people might say "Video camera? Well here's a great VHS-C for $150, we'll replace yours with this." I -highly- recommend SafeWare, they totally threw me for a loop.
