Review and Grabs: Metabones Speedbooster Nikon F to M4/3 on AF100

This is very interesting. wish they made it for the F3 but they are not announcing any plans for it.
Couple of questions;

Have you carefully tested whether the parfocal lenses remain that way? Best to test at 2.8 and with a large chart if possible. I have been corresponding with Metabones to find out whether the "infiinity adjust will affect the parfocal quality - i.e does it move the whole lens back & forth or just the and element in the adapter. Very frustrating conversation as the guy at Metabones doesn't seem to have any idea what I'm asking him.

The other one is I don't get how some of those DX lenses like the Tokina 11- 16 and Nikon 17-55 work great. I mean if they will fill the whole frame cleanly why aren't they marketed as full frame lenses.

The clicks f stops sound like a major major drag to me. WTF? Why? Has anyone asked if they can be declicked like a Nikon lens can?

Yeah, checking out a Rok 85, 8, and 35/1.4 on the booster seriously made me consider getting the whole set. I could sell one Leica R to fund them. Great glass for the cash

The booster doesn't come off the camera now, the 24mm becomes 17mm (35mm FOV), the 35mm is now a 25mm, the 85mm is now a 60mm. Along with the Olympus OM 50mm being converted to Nikon mount I now have a pretty well matched 17, 25, 35 and 60mm primes lens kit all at T1/F0.95, if you need the range you can just take it off but I like the added clarity and brightness at T2 on these lenses.

I requested from Metabones an OM to m4/3 version and got this reply (today): We will launch a OM to M4/3 speed booster at next month….

Thats cool, especially for you with all of those OM primes (i used to own the 600mm F6.3, love OM's)

The majority of my lenses are Nikon mount so it made sense for me to convert my regularly used OM 50mm 1.4

Heres the screen grab at full size from the Samyang 85mm via the speedbooster @ T2 - Jpeg compression though :0(

Found this information regarding the Speedbooster and the Nikkor 20mm f2.8. the "incompatibility" is just the flange on the rear of the lens. Attached is from Metabones on how to nondestructively adapt the lens. I am copying a post from the Black Magic camera blog.

There have been several questions about the Nikkor 20/2.8 AIS here, so I thought I would try to help out.

When designing the SB we measured several dozen different Nikkors, including 15/3.5 AI, 16/3.5 AI'd, 20/2.8 AFD, 24/2.8 AIS, and many others. We mistakenly assumed that we had done an exhaustive survey.

But the 20/2.8 AIS - which is not one of the lenses we checked - turned out to have an unusualy long rear protrusion, and it interferes mechanically with the SB.

The good news is that you can make a simple and completely reversible fix to this lens by simply removing the three small screws that fix the interfering shroud from the rear of the lens. Just make sure you use a high-quality tight-fitting screwdriver:

Cool!

Tamron 17-50 F2.8 has a slight vignette but looks great to me and is now what, a 12-35 F2 constant aperture zoom for £240 pounds!

Tamron 70-200 f2.8, full coverage.

should be arable to test the Olympus OM F1.4 in around a week (have ordered the mount swap from Leitax)

Does the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 Vignette at all apertures on the Speed Booster? Or is on the wide end?
I had wanted to pair this combo with a Panasonic G6 but now I'm not sure.
Is there any video of this vignetting as well?

Thanks for the review on the SpeedBooster.

I just picked one up and now I'm kicking myself for not getting it sooner.

I already loved my AF100, but this just makes it so much better!
